Yes...but its getting difficult now...the tape I got labelled as Monroe, March 7, 1974 ES is probably Monroe, March 8, 1974 ES ..there seems to be the incident with the little girl who got the necklace from Elvis. He protects her from fans while doing Cant Help Falling Love..the makes my unknown tape either Monroe, March 7 ES or Charlotte, March 9, 1974 ES....man....thats not easy..

After all, if someone lists out a "Monroe, March 7, 1974 ES," there must also be one from the afternoon.

I can only find information on an ES for the 7th, and a show for the 8th
Hmm, then maybe we shouldn't be referring to the Monroe performance as "Monroe, March 7, 1974 ES."

Only one gig means it should properly read "Monroe, March 7, 1974" so there is no confusion.

What I have now is Monroe, March 7, 1974 ES. Thats a fact. What remains a mystery is this show..

2001 Theme/Vamp ~ SEE SEE RIDER / Elvis starts with ‘wells’ ~ I GOT A WOMAN / AMEN / AMEN / I GOT A WOMAN ~ LOVE ME ~ TRYIN' TO GET TO YOU-two starts ~ ALL SHOOK UP ~ STEAMROLLER BLUES ~ TEDDY BEAR / DON'T BE CRUEL ~ LOVE ME TENDER ~(Johnny B.Goode, Hound Dog missing)- FEVER ~ POLK SALAD ANNIE ~ WHY ME LORD-repeat ~ SUSPICIOUS MINDS ~ Elvis introduces the Sweet Inspirations, J.D. Sumner & the Stamps Quartet, Kathy Westmoreland, James Burton, John Wilkinson, Ronnie Tutt, Duke Bardwell, Glen (Campbell) D. Hardin, Charlie Hodge, Voice, Per-Erik ‘Pete’ Hallin, Joe Guercio & his Orchestra ~ I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU ~ HELP ME ~ AN AMERICAN TRILOGY ~ LET ME BE THERE-repeat ~ FUNNY HOW TIME SLIPS AWAY ~ CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE / Vamp

The fs before Trying To Get To uncovers it.

And this statement by Elvis should be a hint..

”All kidding aside, of all the places we’ve been to………this second one was one of the best audiences we’ve ever played"..

This means he was already there recently. You think it could be Charlotte, March 9, 1974 ES ?
He gave a pair of shows there on March 9....2:30 pm and 8:30 pm.

Or does this statement refer more to a show he gave days before..? Or both possibilities,..?

I think the unknown show has a date closer to March 17th.

This because in Montgomery March 6th Voice isn’t introduced.

Elvis starts doing that (that we know) in Roanoke March 10th.

In this unknown show Elvis also introduces Pete Hallin separately. Elvis also does that in Memphis March 20th.
So my guess is that this show could be Murfreesboro March 19th.
What do the stories say when Elvis discovers this kid is from Sweden?

possibilities:
Greensboro 13 March
Knoxville 15 March
Memphis 16 March
Murfreesboro 19 March

I know it’s NOT Richmond March 18th (based on reliable review).

The Richmond show was also officially released by FTD in November 2011:

Forty Eight Hours To Memphis
http://www.elvisinnorway.no/48hourstomemphis.html

Voice piano player Per-Erik "Pete" Hallin noted he was filling in for one singing member during the tour, perhaps Tim Baty:

You were on stage when Elvis performed 'How Great Thou Art'. What did you think of his performance?

I liked it a lot. But the strongest memory I have of it, was one time when I wasn't on stage, and could listen to him perform it, I remember I was very moved by it. He did the song with an incredible feeling. I was just on stage during a particular period, and that was because I was standing in for a guy in the background chorus. That was during a tour in March 1974.

My understanding is that it was Sherrill who took some time off.

The one thing I really want to know is, can Pete play "Aubrey?"

Heh. Not sure how accurate he was, but Nielsen claimed he was on the tour, but maybe he left mid-way through.

In March '74 you went on the road with him. What was that like?

It was fun. People were never ready for the excitement that was generated at the Elvis concerts. Several security guards had their ribs literally broken by women rushing the stage.

Anyway, the Hallin introduction could be a method to identifying this crucial 1974 audience recording.

Found the Sherrill mention. It's in "Elvis Day By Day,"by Guralnick and Jorgensen.

March 4, 1974: "Because of ongoing internal disputes within Voice, Sherrill Nielsen leaves the tour after this date and is replaced by the group's piano player, Per-Erik Hallin."

Heh, Sherrill makes no specific mention of this in the interview.

Member Tom Wilson notes Nielsen was photographed at the Auburn show on March 5, and Hallin is first seen up front on March 7. In any case, it must have been quite a dispute, he left after just six shows:

3-01-1974 (Tulsa)
3-02-1974 (Tulsa)
3-03-1974 AS (Houston)
3-03-1974 ES (Houston)
3-04-1974 (Monroe)
3-05-1974 (Auburn)

Only 18 more to go!

Hmm, so according to Peter and Ernst, Hallin must be a tenor. ;-)

To avoid confusion. The tape I got from March 7, 1974 ES is in fact Roanoke, March 10 ES. Sorry for the misunderstanding. My unknown show must be one of these.

Monroe, March 4 ES
Monroe, March 7 ES
Charlotte, March 9 ES
Hampton Roads, March 11 ES
Richmond, March 12 ES
Greensboro, March 13 ES

I can rule out all others.

From what I can gather looking at Rex Martin's "New Service Weekly" from this period, it cannot be Monroe - March 4, Hampton Roads - March 11 or Richmond - March 12.

In Monroe Elvis states after 'Funny How Time Slips Away' that they will be back in Monroe in a couple of days, and then states "Until then I bid you an affectionate adios" - This is not what it's like on your tape, so it cannot be this show.

News Service Weekly-142-Monroe-March_4_1974_02.jpeg
It cannot be from Hampton Roads or Richmond either, as the following indicates that Elvis sang 'Mystery Train / Tiger Man' in Richmond, which isn't on the track listing of the tape you have, and in Hampton Roads it shows he did a reprise of the last verse on 'Why Me Lord?' and also sings 'How Great Thou Art' - does he do this on your tape? If not, it isn't this show you have.

This now just leaves the following concerts as possibilities as being on the tape you have:
Monroe, March 7
Charlotte, March 9 ES
Greensboro, March 13

Thanks, mate. That indeed narrows it down to these 3 concerts. Before Trying To Get To You he says in a joking way something like singing the song on a stool...then we have the fs of the song. Keith you probably have reviews of these 3 shows, too..?

No, sorry, there is nothing for Monroe on March 7 or Greensboro on March 13, and there is only a review of the afternoon show at Charlotte on March 9. I have posted everything of relevance from Rex's "News Service Weekly" in relation to this tour.

Please read this review for Greensboro, March 13, 1974 ES and then listen to what Elvis says before and after Funny How Time Slips Away.

Of interest is the story about this little boy and what Elvis says when he bids the audience goodbye

Yes, this does appear to be the same show that you have, although the reviewer incorrectly states that Elvis sang 'Heartbreak Hotel', which he doesn't on your tape.

As a sidenote, here is the track listing of the Greensboro concert I have in my files, from Shaun Livesey (there's a name from the past!) from thirty years ago:
Also Sprach Zarathustra
See See Rider
I Got A Woman / Amen
Love Me
Trying To Get To You
All Shook Up
Love Me Tender
Hound Dog
Fever
Heartbreak Hotel
Polk Salad Annie
Why Me Lord?
Suspicious Minds
Introductions
I Can't Stop Loving You
Help Me
An American Trilogy
Let Me Be There
Funny How Time Slips Away
Can't Help Falling In Love
