Elvis' bass player Jerry Scheff haven't always played his blues solo. Sometimes he played an other bass solo.
Are some of those solo's recorded ?

Yup.

Click the YouTube video link below and you'll hear Jerry Scheff doing his standard blues solo, then Elvis asks him to "play that thing," and the bass player, along with the band, does his instrumental version of "The Battle of New Orleans," a #1 hit for country star Johnny Horton in 1959:
