ELVIS ON TOUR 1973 - THE APRIL TOUR (THE RECORDINGS)

Elvis' first tour of 1973 started out in Phoenix, Arizona and ended in Denver, Colorado. Elvis did 12 shows during this tour and 8 of them are available on cds & cdrs. The shows are all over very good, with a great setlist with various songs.

April 22nd 1973 Phoenix, Arizona - Audience Recording with good+ sound

We got a good, but incomplete recording of this show (last part is missing). Elvis welcomes the audience by saying he is glad to be back in Phoenix, and that he had been there in 1912.
Elvis gives us a very emotional You Gave Me A Mountain here, a very good version. We get an encore reprise after How Great Thou Art.
After a classic Elvis version of Johnny B. Goode, he sings some improvised lyrics using the tune of Danny Boy.

April 27th 1973 Portland, Oregon - Audience Recording with good++ sound

A great show from our man, and a good sounding recording of the complete show. At the top of this, it's a very interesting setlist with various songs on the menu.
Elvis changes the lyrics of Heartbreak Hotel to "at Rodeway Hotel..." and breaks out in laughter, so we got us a real laughter version of Heartbreak Hotel here.
Little Sister/Get Back is another highlight of this show among with Help Me Make It Through The Night and Long Tall Sally/Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On.

We got a complete and good sounded recording of this show. I guess the show is very well known among the fans, since the release of "The King In Queen City".
The one liners of When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again and Surrender are awesome.
Elvis welcomes the audience by comment the World's Fair in 1963 (I was just a child...). He changes the lyrics in Love Me Tender to "my suit turns blue...". We also got a very good version of Hound Dog here, with a cool army ending.

I have one complete source and the sound is average.

The first version I found on cdr was with bad sound (and very incomplete). A friend of mine has another version with better sound, but with Johnny B. Goode incomplete. So I spliced in Johnny B. Goode from the first show to make mine complete.

I will check Johnny B. tomorrow....I wasn`t aware of it being incomplete..

It's always good to got these little things confirmed, and that's why a topic like this is great. We can find out what's available and what excists as complete/incomplete, and of course, what Elvis is saying (sometimes you can listen to it a thousand times without understanding what's been said).

You're not alone there....LOL... I'm only hoping that most of the parts I'm writing make some sense to others... . I guess some of the things that I write comes out a little bit wrong sometimes

What I meant with the C60 cassette.... If the person who recorded the show used a C60 cassette tape, it runs ca. 30 minutes before it stops and he must turn the cassette and start recording again. So if he used a C60 cassette, it fits with the cut of Johnny B. Goode which is 30 min. and 40 sec. into the show. Then he has to turn the cassette and start recording again.
