Elvis delivers a good show with standard setlist. As the last set before Can't Help Falling In love Elvis does Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel as a input song. One of the members of Joe Guercio's Orchestra has birthday, Elvis mentions it after The Band Intros. I hasn't be able to identify his name, so if someone knows it, please let us know the name.

Hello Ahm,

I've listened to that piece from the orchestra member... But I come no further than Miss Gettysburg.
It seems impossible because I couldn't find any info from that person.
Let me know what you think about it.

A false start at THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE. Great hilarity in the audience when Elvis shows his sense of humour.

September 1st 1973 - Dinner Show - Audience Recording with bad to fair sound

Good show with standard setlist, but the sound of the recording is a little bit strange.........to me it sounds like the first tracks runs a little to slow, but if you try to adjust the speed it comes out wrong...so the only thing I did with this recording was reducing the hiss and lower the applaude from the audience.
Anyway, as I've mentioned, a good show with Elvis in good mood. Charlie Hodge & J.D. Sumner is seen togther during Long Tall Sally. Suspicious Minds gets the lyrics changed to "I hate this song...." again. The introduction of "I Can't Stop Loving You" has the usual: "You know what I can't do........drink water and sing at the same time...", but this time Elvis sings the "drink water and...." comment.
An American Trilogy has a false start with some joking from Elvis berfore he does a great version of it. After doing "Trilogy", Elvis says "I like to sing a song.....that is someone in the audience Ladies & Gentlemen that's very important to me....they're from Las Vegas....(from here on, I can't catch up on what's been said).....Also my father is in the audience (then applaude). Somebody who's understand what he says???
As an end Elvis does great versions of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and How Great Thou Art (with reprise). How great Thou Art always give me chills when it's sung this way.

The sound ain't good, but the most annoying thing is the sound of someone clapping their hands right into the mic, so it hit your ears like gunshots. Good show with standard setlist. Again we hear that Elvis talks more during the midnight shows compare to the dinner shows. Elvis gives Trouble a funny start here, and Suspicious Minds seems to be "hated" in each show now. An American Trilogy is also given a little funny start by Elvis. Elvis credits Jimmy Mulidore and his flute solo after the song. Elvis dedicates The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face to his dad (Vernon). We get another great version of How Great Thou Art with reprise as an ending song.

Elvis' extra show for this season is very enjoyable. He is in good show mood and does a good show. The Rock Medley is catchin' on real fast here (with Charlie Hodge & J.D. Sumner as "targets" during Long Tall Sally, before he does Love Me Tender with a very powerful ending. Fever follows and Elvis takes a one liner of Polk Salad Annie during this song. After this Polk Salad Annie version of Fever, we get a laughing version of What now My Love. We also get some funny lyrics during Suspicious Minds. Elvis introduces a delegation from the British fan club after the Introduction Of The Band. An American Trilogy gets a hard start because Elvis don't like the way the light setting is done.

A great show with a funny Elvis. He does a medley of one of his records again :D . The Rock Medley has Charlie Hodge & J.D. Sumner as "victims" during Long Tall Sally. Bridge Over Troubled Water is sung beautifully with a reprise. How Great Thou Art also got a reprise. Gloria Loring is introduced by Elvis after the Introduction Of The Band. Elvis does Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel as a request from the audience. It's Now Or Never is requested before An American Trilogy, but he dosen't do it.
There's also a different recording of this show which sounds like a sound booth recording, however this source has three songs missing (Bridge Over Troubled Water, An American Trilogy and How Great Thou Art).

September 2nd 1973 - Midnight Show - Sound booth Recording

Another Great and long show with Elvis in very good mood. This Vegas season is going to an end, and it seems like Elvis is happy for it. Marty Allen is seen with Long Tall Sally during The Rock Medley this time, since he attended this show. We got a fast racing version of Love Me Tender before he does it in real Elvis style (with some kidding and laughing). Bridge Over Troubled Water is done greatfully with reprise. Elvis has a hard time staying serious during Suspicious Minds.
Elvis skips the introduction of Charlie Hodge during the Introduction Of The Band, and introduces him after he have introduced Hugh O'Brian, Marty Allen and Vernon Presley, saying he has saved him for last because his the least  . An American Trilogy gets a clowny start with Disneyland instead of Dixieland, but otherwise is a great version. Good versions of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Mystery Train/Tiger Man and How Great Thou Art (with reprise) follows.
After these songs the show has reached it's time limit, but Elvis is very geared up and want to continue the show. He gives us A Big Hunk Of Love, Release Me (with some changed lyrics) and What Now My love (great version, dedicated to Marty Allens wife) before he closes the show with Can't Help Falling In Love.

September 3rd 1973 - Dinner Show - Audience Recording with good sound

This is the last dinner show for this season, and Elvis gives us a good and funny show. Elvis is in a very good mood for talking and joking, and does the songs with power in his voice. The last part of the show gots some interesting songs, since Elvis takes requests from the audience. Highlights here is It's Now Or Never, How Great Thou Art and Polk Salad Annie. For us who are totally insane, we got highlights by Elvis doing a few lines of Jailhouse Rock and Farther Along. In additional to that we also got one line of Guadalajara and Miracle Of The Rosary...... during the talking after The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and after the Miracle Of The Rosary, you can hear Glen Hardin softly plays the first few bars of Are You Lonesome Tonight?.
For concert fans it's a must have show because of the setlist. Sadly something happens with the tape during Polk Salad Annie, so the sound goes really down in quality for the last part of the show. The first part of this show (down to Trouble) was released in soundboard by FTD on the Closing Night cd.

September 3rd 1973 - Closing Show - Audience Recording with good sound

I think everything is written about this famous Closing Show, so I really don't have anything more to say about this Show. It must have been the craziest show Elvis ever did. You can hear most of the show in great soundboard on the FTD Closing Night (from Rock Medley and onwards). Elvis introduces a lot of folks and celebrities during the show (see the tracklist under).
A funny thing with the celebrities who attended this show is that Hamilton, Cosby and Bassey are all born in 1937. Hamilton and Cosby in July (19th & 12th), Bobbie Gentry was also born in July (27th 1944) and Shirley Bassey was born on January 8th 1937....

Summer Festival 1973 - Summary
Making a tread like this to set the highlight of the recordings of shows from a specific season was interesting. I made this for the show recordings only, and I would not come to any conclusion of what Elvis did, his state of mind, what happend during this time of Elvis' life etc. Nor am I going to add what suits Elvis wore during this season either. We have some dates where we know what suit he was wearing, and we have some sites that says he wore this suit that night etc. There's only a few dates where we know for sure what Elvis was wearing.
I could have pointed out more details from the shows when it comes to certain songs like Fever, Love Me, Love Me Tender, I Got A Woman/Amen. These are songs where Elvis sets his "watermarks" on each performance, so every show has it's own special version, and is very important songs if you want to identify a show. The variation of songs like Fever is so wide (what's he saying, singing and the reactions from the audience) that you really must hear the versions. So that's the reason I don't have pointed out these song so much.
Now when all the shows got it's own overview, I'm really glad for the additional information that has been added in this tread already, so if some of you have more information, add it. It's always fun to learn something new about the recordings and the shows, and I hope others in this forum found something new about the shows too. Sometimes you can listen your ears off and don't understand what's been said or sing because of the quality of the recording. In these cases, the topic has been very useful for me.

My compliments and thanks for the interesting topic! As concertfreak I've learned from this too.
It's also interesting too read how another fan listen to concerts.
If you are planning more of this sort of topics in the future, I would be glad If I could add some information too
when necessary.

I guess most of you know about Ciscokings site, BUT if you don't know about it, and want to know more of what's available on CDs and CDRs from Elvis' concert years, and may have a listen to some of the shows :

http://ciscoking.jordans-elvis-world.com/

I can assure you, this is most reliable site for such information. ::rocks

AHM1977, I really enjoyed reading your summer 1973 concerts overview. Not too many realize that these shows might well have been the very last of Elvis' career, had events in Memphis that October gone differently.
