I heard it on the "... And Then The Lights Went Down" CD and it was quite a surprise! Unfortunately Elvis didn't go for it... but it's been ages since I last listened to it so I can't recall where exactly he sings it (actually just the title).
ekenee wrote:IIRC that is may 9th. But he only sings the title because someone is yelling out titles. It's in the middle of the show somewhere near the intros.

Boy, this series of audios REALLY MAKES ME MAD and SAD. So many songs Elvis could have been doing instead of the same ones over and over and over -- and more lackluster as the years went on. LOVE ME, LOVE ME TENDER, DON'T BE CRUEL, TEDDY BEAR, I GOT A WOMAN and HOUND DOG all needed to go. Elvis was returning to the SAME towns in 1976 and 1977, and did not need to do those anymore. It's too bad he was so lazy. And no wonder I couldn't wait until the 'oldies' were over.

I wonder if it wasn't rather deep-rooted insecurity rather than laziness? Bearing the prematurly abbandoned fresh Opening Night '74 setlist in mind. But nevertheless, I agree that he should have incorporated at least the easy and guaranteed-succesful and recognizable songs (like "Rip It Up" etc.) into his set-list gradually. He should have done more of his best 70s material live on stage IN FULL. He had so many songs to choose from (50s-60s) and could do it all! Plus all kinds of other songs he picked up on the radio or through LP's in his collection. What I would have loved to hear him sing and record professionally either in the studio or on stage: "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", "Killing Me Softly" in FULL. At least we have "Help Me Make It Through The Night", although I feel he could have done that better on stage, than what we thusfar have on soundboard.

Joe Krein interview with Sherril Nielsen: "YOU KNOW YOU FORGET HOW GOOD HE REALLY WAS. I SAID MY GOODNESS. YOU KNOW WHEN YOU ARE WITH HIM YOU ARE SO WRAPPED UP DOING THE SHOW, BUT HERE NOW 20 YEARS LATER, I HEAR HIM AND REALIZE WHAT A GREAT TALENT HE WAS. HE WAS THE REAL DEAL.
