The Rick Rennie tapes - fantastic !

I just gave A Bright Midnight With Elvis (August 20, 1970 MS) a spin....wow..!
An outstanding powerhouse performance in really fantastic audience recording sound. I almost think it`s a soundbooth recording...you get the perfect feeling of a live show..all atmosphere is captured..and Elvis and band really rock..We have fantastic renditions of many songs which made him famous and rarities and oneliners..just anything which makes a concert worthwhile..and enjoyable....

What is the story of this man who taped so many shows in fantastic sound..?..Anybody knew him..?

Unfortunately I didn't know him, but I have some of his recordings. And the really sound a lot better than most of the other audience recordings.

How sad that he lost most of his master tapes so in many cases we only got first or second generation copies. Even the copies sound very good but imagine the sound quality of the masters! But they are lost forever.

Don`t understand,..Gabriel..how did he loose them..?..He made copies before..?..Are there more..than we already have....

I mean that some of the releases we have are from early generation copies.
For example, Shining In Portland comes from the first generation copy because Rick lost the master tape. Before that he made copies of course.
On Double Dynamite both 1970 Aug. 19. D/S & M/S come from the first generation copies,too,as the master tapes have been lost.

He made at least one recording in aug. '69,too,but that was taken away by the guards.

Rennie wasn't a "bootlegger," the above discs were not his work, but an archivist. The best of his tapes are about as close as any of us will ever get to attending a great 70s Presley show. Further, Rick managed to catch Elvis' mysterious statement, repeated quite seriously across several nights at the International in the summer of 1970, about "Tiger Man" being his "second record" for Sun.

That´s right, anyway two differences..
On the AR the 2001 Theme and the intros are missing. The repeated Closing Vamp is complete.
On the FTD soundboard the Closing Vamp is incomplete with the repetition missing..
