So a "booth" recording is, essentially, still an "audience" recording as it is not sourced from a direct=line feed from the stage? Correct?

A "Booth" tape is an off-line recording. Some are a sonic disaster!

The Profile box show - 30th August 1973 booth tape is superb quality, very atmospheric and better than a clinical soundboard, i think its brill, on the other hand the booth recording used as a bonus track on April Fools Dinners is awful so i guess each and everyone on its own merits. I would love to have more of these, High Sprits in Vegas is also superb. Would be happy with more booth tapes in our FTD live archive please Ernst.

Some booth tapes were used on the 1974 Having Fun On Stage album too, so we have had them longer than we knew we had.

There are a few excellent sounding audience recordings from jan./feb. 1974:

Jan. 26. O/S 1974 (Something Old,Something New)
http://ciscoking.jordans-elvis-world.co ... imp/07.ram

Feb. 6. M/S 1974 (Checkamte In Vegas)

Feb 7. M/S 1974 (Live In Las Vegas)
http://ciscoking.jordans-elvis-world.co ... gas/08.ram

I don't know if these are booth recordings or just ordinary ones.

Ahhh, I see. Thanks Deadringer! It is a VERY clear and atmospheric recording so I guess I mistakenly filed it in my mind as being from a booth tape.

I heard a story once about an individual that would enter the showroom early to crawl under a table down by the stage and tape a recorder and two microphones to the bottom of the table towards the front. One pointing slightly left and one slightly right center stage. Very crafty!

He then looked a bit daft 30 minutes through the show whilst he crawled back under the table to turn the tape over!!

"Oops! I seem to have dropped my cutlery...would you excuse me, please."
"I've something in my shoe. One moment?"
"You've something in YOUR shoe! One moment?"
"My legs come off! Back in a jiffy."
"I wonder if you can hear Elvis from under the table?"
"Excuse me, I need to lie down."
"I fancy your skirt! Is that cotton?"
"This carpet is lovely! I must have a closer look."
- Or perhaps, once seated, they would losen the recorder and place it on their lap.

Someone said that these booth recordings were solely made by the sound engineer. How should a normal fan bring the whole equipment which must have been not so small back then.. in the show room and place it ideal to get such good sound without being caught....?.

Some of feb. 1972 concerts are circulating as booth recordings too.

You have dates..?... :smt006

There are programs available for PC to create surround audio. When you have a good audience recording you can create this "booth" recording yourself with excellent results.
