very cool suit.....one of the coolest.
I've seen 'em several times at graceland....but I always thought there was only one Aloha suit?
I know he wore it later on too....

Oh man....I wish I was the one that caught the cape Elvis throw in the audience......it would be now displayed at my house !!!!!! :)

....I get carried away very easily...emotional sonovabitch.....

The last time he wore the January 14, 1973 version of the Aloha suit was during the February, 1973 Las Vegas, NV engagement. The suit you see him wearing after this time is the larger suit that was manufactured due to his weight gain in late 1973 - early 1974.

So was there two "Egyptian" or "Today" suits too? I've seen photos of him wearing that suit in LV during the Jan/Feb 73 stint and he was still very thin. But the shots from April and June show a different story.

I'm confused. I thought he wore both suits in Hawaii, one at each show. We had a thread here some time ago that focused on the subtle differences between the two.

Great thread for someone not too jumpsuit inclined! I too would like to know the complete details of the 2 jumpsuits. Btw the one on the right is the larger one?

He did wear both suits. One at the rehearsal on the 12th (this particular one looks very "loose" on him during the rehearsal) and one during the actual telecast on January 14, 1973 (this one looks a little 'tighter' on him - especially around the shoulders and waist. There was actually an invoice posted either here or over at TCB-World which shows orders for two Aloha Bald-Headed Eagle jumpsuits - I just wish I could locate it.

As far as there being two Egyptian or Today suits, I'll have to check my notes and see but I don't think that there were more than one of these suits. I posted, albeit a long time ago, a list of the jumpsuits and how many there were of each. If I can locate the list on here, I'll repost it and maybe PEP or the Mods can make it a "Sticky".

Re: The two Aloha Jumpsuits/Complete Jumpsuit Listing

#809830

Post by Tony Trout »

Here is the list of ALL of the jumpsuits that were manufactured for Elvis:

Gene Doucette was the originator of the designer names. The fan names for the suits were taken from either a specific concert (For example, the 'Spectrum' suit was named that because of Elvis wearing that at that particular show in '71 in Philadelphia, PA) and other suit names were taken from album covers (the original "Raised On Rock" LP is a good example for the "Sunlight"/"Orange Target" suit being given a fan name).

Below is a list (courtesy of Leroy at TCB-World) of the names given for the jumpsuits and the two-piece suits:

And for the record, the "Colorful Flame Suit" was the last suit made for Elvis while he was still alive, IIRC.

Hopefully, that should solve the problem regarding calling the jumpsuits by their incorrect names.

It would be nice if the Mods could make this a "Sticky" thread (at least the names of the jumpsuits) so that everyone could look back on it.

Frankie,

No, there were not two "Egyptian" or "Today" suits made - I assume that they were just "let out" so that Elvis could fit into them when he gained weight - same as with the Mexican Sundial suit.

Could you please list each city these suits were worn? Please also include the track listing for each song every time they were worn, what the musicians were wearing and what they had for breakfast that morning. Also, what color was the 4th scarf Elvis had on during each show?

Thank you in advance.

All info, except for what they had for breakfast and what color the fourth scarf was, can most likely be found at two sites:

Elvis Presley In Concert

Elvis In Concert

The last time that the actual "Aloha From Hawaii" jumpsuit was worn was on February 17, 1973. The "larger" jumpsuit was worn at all the other engagements:

Dates Where The Aloha Bald Headed Eage Jumpsuit Was Worn (including The Larger "Tour" Version)

(And, yes, Rob, I know you were teasing about the breakfast and scarf stuff).

Also, for the person who asked, when you're looking at the photo, the jumpsuit on the left is the actual January 14, 1973 "Aloha From Hawaii" jumpsuit. The jumpsuit on the right is the larger jumpsuit from later 1973-1974. I just wish that they could locate the actual belt from the January 14, 1973 "Aloha From Hawaii" American Bald-Headed Eagle Jumpsuit.

You're welcome, Juan. I was amazed at how many variations of certain jumpsuits there are when I first saw the list.

BTW, there was only ONE (1) Mexican Sundial suit. The buttons came off and never were replaced.

There are three versions of the Aloha Eagle.

Two identical jumpsuit he received on 17.th January 1973 for the Aloha special and he used them for the Aloha and his Jan./Feb. 73 engagement in Las Vegas and one larger version for going on tour in April.
The third one (larger) one was needed in 1973.
They have some vey subtile differences, particularly the blue stones. The second suit incorporated opasque blue stones in the chest and back eagles.

Maybe the last one was a rush order because of Elvis increased weight. The one he wore in 1974 is definately the third version.

.Dates:

1973
January 12, 1973 (8:30 pm) Honolulu, HA
January 14, 1973 (0:30 am) Honolulu, HA
April 28, 1973 (8:00 pm) Spokane, WA

June 20, 1973 (8:30 pm) Mobile, AL
June 27, 1973 (8:30 pm) Cincinnati, OH
July 2, 1973 (8:30 pm) Oklahoma City, OK
August 6, 1973 (opening night Las Vegas for 73' Summer Festival

1974
March 6, 1974 (8:30 pm) Montgomery, AL
March 12,1974 (8:30 pm) Richmond, VA
March 14,1974 (8:30 pm) Murfreesboro, TN

Neverending,

I know that there are three suits. The suits we are taliking about are only the ones that he wore for the "Aloha From Hawaii" telecast - of which there are only two (2) suits. He wore one suit for the January 12, 1973 rehearsal show and the other suit for the actual January 14, 1973 television program.

The "Aloha Bald-Headed Eagle" suit we see him wear after the February, 1973, Las Vegas, NV engagement is the third suit because he had gained weight during this period.

Wasn't there also three belts and two capes?

First belt was given to Jack Lord, second and third belt had a gold star and red stone - respectively - on top and bottom centre of the buckle.

First cape was too big and heavy to be worn and the second was the one worn for the Aloha shows.

a little late for the aloha special, huh?

@jon:
as far as I know, there were 2 belts.
the original one, he wore and gave away during the aloha-show (with 4 red stones on the buckle) and a second one with 6 red stones.
about the cape, I just heard or read the story about the second cape (that was abviously too long and too heavy to wear it on stage)
