I would respectively like to nominate Rainbow Records' "Never Endng Demand" vol.s 1 & 2 into the upper echelon.

I passed on "Never Ending Demand." I already had a soundboard show from Montgomery and a pretty good sounding audience recording from Savannah. Thus the reason for not making my list. I have a personal rule that says I have to have these CD's in my collection before I can put them on my list.

Take "Tonight 8:30 pm" off my list?

Let the world call me a fool. But if things are right with me and you, that's all that matters and I'll do anything you ask me to.

Except that.

Never ending demand 1 is kinda pointless.
The "meat" of concert is already available in soundboard.
And to spend US$ 30 or more in an audience recording to hear See See Rider, I got a woman, Love, If you Love Me and the band intros from a mediocre 1977 show is a little too much...unless you have Rob's "never ending" budget.

But, "Tonight 8:30 pm" is not on your list. My plea was to have it included.

but this disc deserves to be immortalized.

A show, unfortunately, only released as a CDR (incomplete) from Eugene, OR on November 25, 1976 is a rarity... Elvis sounds great with absolutely no signs of being under the influence of anything. While the setlist holds little in the way of surprises, it would be fantastic to hear this audience recording in its entirety. There are so few recordings from 1976 where Elvis sounds as clear and confident. If anyone has come across it, it would be great to know.

What a pity that this show is not available on real CD. The sound is really excellent and Elvis is in surprisingly good form (for a 1976 show).

A soundboard would be nice of course but in this case i would prefer the audience recording (in complete form). That Beethoven's 5th Symphony thing is very unusual,i've never heard that on any other Elvis release. I even like the hysterical (and somewhat irritating) laughing of that woman.
She clearly enjoyed the show!

Voldto, please don’t continue. Rob said no CD-Rs, and I’ve gotta agree with him. Besides, I’ve already mentioned two of the titles you list. The Better Than Ever release comes in atrocious sound. That’s why it’s not included. The August 26, 1969, midnight show has been released on multitrack.

Ok ill correct my post on three points.
Since the title is "Audience Recordings - My Picks" i will correct the wording of the sentence "You have to add..."
to "-I- would also recomended these titles even though they are not cd but cd-r's" and since the topic is "audience recordings my picks" and not "audience recordings released on cd my picks" i feel its well within the topic of the post.

Also i would off course delete the aug 26 1969 midnight show since this has been released as you say as a multitrack recording after i made my list of audience recordings worth having.

Tender touching moment aug 27 1969. Yes the date is highly questionable but its still a nice collection of rare songs performed in 1969

On dozens of occasions, I've received PM's (two this week) from different people asking my opinion on certain audience recordings. Many people do not collect them, but many, like myself, do. I have compiled a list of audience recorded concerts that I have on original factory-pressed silver CD's. I don't do CDR's in any way, shape or form, so I'm only including real CD's in my list. Just out of curiosity, how come you've put 'Here Come The Stars' on your list? I was reading 'Here Come The Stars' thread recently, and lots of people (even you, if I remember correctly) said that the sound is better on the 'Love Letters From Nevada'.

I do agree that most people, including me, prefer the sound on the original. However, the sound on "Here Come The Stars" is still excellent. Most people have a very difficult time locating the original and find it somewhat easier to find the re-release. Therefore, I changed my list.

You can't go wrong with either one.

I also liked that "Here Come The Stars" and it replaces my CD-R of the earlier title. I have to compare the sound and I may keep it just in case. But like most new titles, the presentation has really come along way.

I just got "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" and it's a nice companion piece to the earlier "Faded Love" with Elvis singing better and again the very good sound given the AR status. Do you have it yet, Rob?

It's what they call a "two-mic ambient tape" - an apparently previously-unreleased February 14, 1973 Dinner Show. I see you have the prior "Faded Love" listed. Very helpful post, Rob. I like the year-by-year edit of your list by DJC.

You note just two from 1971 -- not too many in good quality?
There are 15 titles from 1973 -- for the live versions of "My Boy"?
We see an equal number for 1977 -- for the dive bombs or band solos?

For some reason I didn't see it, Rob - probably because I was referring to Doc's revamped (by year) edition of your list .

I also am enjoying (the listed) " The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" - Las Vegas 8/30/73 D.S. (Straight Arrow SA 2010-16-02) (Released 2010). I love the "you are there" sound of a good AR like this.

Straight Arrow released You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me and this CD around the same time. Both are audience registrations of 1973 shows. Will the comparison end here?

Design
Unlike You Don’t Have To Say this release of the August 30 Dinner Show in Vegas has a booklet and a neat one! A lot of the pictures are take from scans of the original negatives (Caught in a trap, Deelen/ Van Houten), so the quality is extremely good for a CD-booklet. The liner notes are fun to read, but the first part very hard (dark red text on a black background). The text cloud used for the title is very stylish.

Content
The sound of The First Time is of much better quality than You Don’t Have To Say. It doesn’t belong to those few toppers like Gyrating Asheville, but it’s only one step less. Elvis is clearly audible and seems to have a lot of fun himself. The rarities Trouble, Release Me (hardly serious, but fun) and the beautiful rendition title track alone make this CD worthwhile. Add some great performances (Steamroller, Bridge! How Great Thou Art) and as said, Elvis in a good mood and you’ll have an enjoyable CD from start to finish. Talking about the finish… the last song was taken from another source, since the tape was full. Unfortunately the quality is not as good, but at least the show is still complete.

Conclusion
It’s been quite a long time since I enjoyed an audience recording as much as this one! I certainly do recommend this Straight Arrow release.
