Good Afternoon Mr Grumpy.........got out of bed the wrong side today did we.

The way to look at it Sir Ger is this............at least these youngsters are on this MB talking about our Man and not out mugging old Ladies and such.

My theory is..........these younger members aren't interested in the 50's.........it's too much like a History lesson at school.....Black and White footage, people looking 50 when they are 25 etc. Now if I am not mistaken the Music Channels have shown Elvis from the 70's........Suspicious Minds from TTWII, ALLC and the re-releases last year of his No 1's all add up to the fact..........for some people Elvis only started in the 70's and not before. That is why we have good people like yourself giving us the wonderful books and such, and hey who knows when they grow up a bit they may want to know ''how it all started'.

Everyone has different periods of Elvis' career that they like. That's the great thing about being an Elvis fan. Theres so much to enjoy, and learn from each decade. Not everyone is going to obessed with just one. I would have to consider myself a 70's fanatic..and thats just my personal taste...but that does not mean I do not like and appreciate what the 50's were and represented...because i do...So i just hope fans don't judge other fans over what decade if Elvis' career they choose to like.

Instead of throwing in the towel after one night.
Yes, quite a few of the songs used on Opening Night was also used later this Vegas season.

In fact, a lot of songs were used during this engagement - which probably indicates that Elvis was desperately trying to renew his set-list at this point.

Too bad that the Vegas audience didn't respond that well.

Also, we have to remember that he obviously was going through a hard time at this point in his life. The now infamous Closing Show in mind...

[quote="Tallhair AKA Ger Rijff"]... yes Rob V, Im a crude selfish arrogant mother. But at least I know

what Im talking about. The same cant be said of Hoppy and some

of his offsprings, here on the mb. Youre his cousin?

Another childish comment from you!
You might know what you're talking about, but.... knowledge 'puffs up',
where decent and intelligent comments can be useful and help a person gain more accurate info.

Tallhair AKA Ger Rijff wrote:... Elvis at Sun has always been a great topic of discussion among

the fans, ever since the late 60s. As much as I look forward to

Ernst's definitive work, it forever will end many dreams of ever

hearing certain tracks - that probably dont even excist - such as

Uncle Pen ( one N at the end, not 2) or Tennessee Saturday Night?

Certain aspects of the Sun era forever should be clouded in

mystery... Knowing blondie's in-depth research skills, little will

be left to our imagination, when the book and cds see their release.

... So, Ernst, take your time... I can wait another so many years,

before its all there in print.

God forbid, if this mb will be filled with even more brainles topics,

than we already have from young guys gettin' a hard on cooking

up set lists of songs he should have performed... but didnt.

Or more "whats your favourite tv Live performance?"- and leaving

out all 50s performances on a list to choose from...

... Two years ago, when I first came to this site, a lot was going

on... these days its going downhill fast. Kindergarten have taken

over. Many contributers have left, or were kicked off.

... Are we all running out of fuel lately... I am.
Ger, you sure sound like a Mother F... sometimes...
But you tell it like it is, or rather more so how you
personally feel.... :D

All good things usually do come to an end.....sadly

Whatever small surprise's could be left will be far an
in between....some things will die with private collectors
while other items may eventually come out at some point...
But, then sadly we will either be dead or too old to care......

At the same time like you said, Ernst can take his time on
the SUN project, no rush for me as much as I'am looking
forward to this too, I want it packed with as much information
as possible....

Ger, the one thing you have done, which appears this
way sometimes, outside looking in, is you have limited
yourself or rather cherry picked only certain events or
certain music from Elvis' long career....which is fine....
because that's you.....don't change now....

By saying this I don't mean you have to go out wearing a
jumpsuit or even like them, but sometimes you do
appear to have a little too much anger as to how Elvis
turned out....

For me, there is certainly some disappointment,
as there could have been so much more the man
could have done if he would have
stayed in shape psychically and mentally....
as well as stayed into a little more Rock n Roll...
an not some much the sappy or country material,
but hey, that part of it...an it is what it is...

When it comes to the younger people getting into Elvis
it's a cool thing....

Some find Elvis though his 50's music while other's find
him through his 60's or 70's music....and yes in even
through the odd Remix....or through change of some kind..

Personally I don't care how they get there just as long
as they get there and become a fan.....

Some are on top of things and are very knowledgeable
on Elvis, while others are not....it goes with the territory...

Hell, some have been into Elvis since the 50's
and still don't know a whole lot....an just
stay that Teddy Bear fan, nice to know they are
fans too, but I could do without...

Anyway, as a miserable as you may sound some
times...
It's people like you who we appreciate, at least I do...

Granted, it would be nice if you were into the other stages
of Elvis' career a little more, but hey you are what you are...

This board still isn't all that bad yet Ger, any thread
you don't like just move on of course, but at least there
is actively, at the same time lets hope it doesn't
turn to a Teddy Bear board....as it will then be time
to move on for me too.....not that anyone would care...

But I think we would care about you leaving...hang
in there Ger, hell man, your pushing 60 your not dead
yet, and neither is Elvis in one way either, music wise... :smt023

Personally, i try to find him through all his music, from the beginning to the end. There´s a single of my own i´ve been listening for a while now: MYSTERY TRAIN (1955) / STEAMROLLER BLUES (REHEARSAL ALOHA). Almost 20 years between each recording but still very enjoyable! 8)

All the live-versions of That's All Right Mama from 76/77 are better than the Sun studio-version.

What better way to get the forum going, then to stir the pot. Clearly there's an underhanded purpose to this thread.

You are not leaving.., you are only beggggging for tearjerking support.. Touching :)

Ger, I'm an Elvis fan since I was 10 (which is over 30 years ago) and I joined the Elvis fanclub IET back then. You were very active in that area back then and I learned a lot from guys like you. People like you to me were an incentive to go out and look for the great Elvis material which led to quite a collection over the years and an everlasting love for the man and his music.
Isn't it just that spirit that we are obliged to pass on to the younger generation of fans

I have no problem with the idea of young fans posting here - it is the fact that most of them don't seem to be able to string a coherent sentence together that irritates me. Educational standards sure seem to have gone downhill since I was 12. Brad M appears to be the exception, but it is a shame that you have to hunt for his message among the oversized Avatar and string of photos in his sig block.
