If true, I'll definitely purchase the Feb. '72 disc. IF true!!

Thu Nov 16, 2006 10:18 am

It this is true, it's very good news indeed. I've been waiting for more recordings from Feb '72 and Feb '77. Hopefully FTD will come up with good-looking covers for them, too. I bought "Southern Nights" a couple of weeks ago and that one looks fabulous! I know the music is the most important thing but a great cover really does add extra value, no doubt.

Until these two CD's are released, I'm gonna keep playing and enjoying my "Let Yourself Go" FTD!

:o The fantastic thing about getting professionally recorded feb 1972 recordings is that we could get a similar type release as the excellent feb 1970 polk salad annie styled release which combined with the feb 14th cuts on writing for the king...has the potential to give us most of the recorded tracks from that period on FTD AND in my lifetime! the sheer fact that these arn't just any other soundboard, should help whatever IS released tremendously- this is something potentially to be a VERY great release- looking forward to continuing to be an Elvis collector of FTD releases in 2007!

.... You have a choice of either :

.... Feb 16, Montgomery, or

.... Feb 21, Charlotte...

How I know?... I know.

Add to this, a wunderbar boot dvd : The Sun King , on stage 77,

super 8 with dubbed soundboard. See the King walk the stage,

from the left to the right, tossing out scarfs by the dozen.

...1977... such exciting times...

Both shows are already released..

I was hoping for Hollywood, we have great pictures from that gig :?

FTD should be supported no doubt and I will continue to do so.

But I'm a little dissapointed of the news....personally I would
rather do without the 77' show....but again will still buy...

The 72' show I would certainly look forward more towards this
if unreleased in any form....but again if it has been released
before ....I will still buy....

What do I want....well anything from 69 to 71' would be nice...
or studio material of some kind if available....

An since we are riding into the 30th, what would really be cool
if finally some how someway FTD found a 57' show....

Now that would be exciting !!!!

I take it that the Feb '72 cd will contain the same versions that will be released on "Writing for the King" bonus cd?! And PLEASE try and come up with better titles than "Unchained melody" and "American trilogy"; these are so unimaginative. You have time to change them; maybe call the '77 one "Hound dog" and the '72 one "Teddy bear"!!!!! LOL

Thu Nov 16, 2006 1:19 pm

I hope that Ger is not right. 16 february 1977 Montgomery we all ready have on "Coming On Strong" and the Charlotte show from 21 february on "Moody Blue and Other Great Performances" and "Cajun Tornado". Robert: in the Hollywood show Elvis looks like sh*t...but I guess you were joking

... sorry, guys... but my info is correct.

and The Sun King dvd wasnt a joke either... must have taken ages to

think up this title  I'll bet he's wearing the sun dial suit [ or

whatever name it was given by the fans?] Sun King... well, maybe

it features a rave version of Good Rockin' Tonight ?! If not , I'll

settle for Ifyoulommelemmeknow and Lemmebethere!

Tony sounds rather pessamistic(but could be right?) about 72 stuff and Ger sounds pretty pessamistic about 77 stuff, however i certainly hope? more than 2 shows of material (we already have) can be picked from? great live sounds come from 17th,18th and 20th Feb too....and according to Tunzi sessions 3 every date is listed as recorded from that tour! so i don't want to go down the downer attitude-yet, hopefully it will be something new as well?

Thu Nov 16, 2006 2:27 pm

Yeah, but Ger KNOWS it is a choice of just the 2 shows which we already have in soundboard quality :smt010

... hey! Ho! ... Im in no way putting down FTD's choice in picking one

of the above mentioned 77 soundboards! Its the dvd that worries me...

Im sure the sound will be improved over the old Baxter releases.

... and maybe some nice additional bonus tracks? Cheer up, junkies!

Both shows are great!

I was always under the impression that the 2 soundboards were not complete.

I thought this, too. But just because bootleggers haven't released them in complete form that doesn't mean necessarily that those shows are incomplete.

it is a choice of just the 2 shows which we already have in soundboard quality

Not everybody own those bootlegs and the sound quality will be even better probably.

Thanks Matthias!! :D

Would just love to have another live version of Unchained (or more than one if that is not too greedy!!)

... Keith, my little scandinavian Stone, I wrote BOOT dvd...

If the Baxters were incomplete, chances are, so will be the FTD one.

but... maybe FTD found a better/ complete copy?! I say maybe.

... I know a lot  ... but not everything

Thu Nov 16, 2006 3:14 pm

The original announcement did say complete show, but hey, perhaps they mean complete spliced from several different shows.

Wait a minute, that would not technically be a complete show would it?

Hmm,???

Now you've got me talking to myself!! I'm off to the Pub!!

I like your compilation idea. "Winter Tour" - how 'bout that for an original title!!

Thu Nov 16, 2006 5:38 pm

A 1977 show on FTD is long overdue. It’s only natural that they would want to start with the first tour of the year when picking a soundboard release, as this was the only time in 1977 that Elvis really tried coming up with a slightly different set list. "Moody Blue", "Unchained Melody", "Where No One Stands Alone", "Blueberry Hill", "Release Me", Reconsider Baby" … need I say more?

A February 1972 concert/compilation seems a strange choice, since we are getting some tracks from this engagement on Writing for the King. One of the On Tour shows would be a more natural choice, especially this April. Not that it really matters, because both options are equally great.

Personally, I'm happy to hear that a soundboard concert from the Feb 1977 tour is coming out, because I believe that Elvis' voice was highly underrated for that year.

Big Boss Man wrote:Personally, I'm happy to hear that a soundboard concert from the Feb 1977 tour is coming out, because I believe that Elvis' voice was highly underrated for that year.

Well, Feb would be the wrong tour for you..
Elvis' voice was pretty hoarse of the weather, as Elvis himself also noticed.

I'm really looking forward to both of these releases, and think this is great news. I was worried that with Vegas 72 tracks being included on the CD's included with the new book from FTD, we might not get this one. I'll be first in line, as they are the best sounding recordings of Elvis in Vegas - assuming they're mixed properly, and don't come out sounding like the San Antonio show. If they sound like they did on the 70's box, or even on Burning Love, that'll be great.

As for a show from Feb 77, I think the benefit of including something from this tour is that by all accounts, Elvis was genuinlely pleased to be back out in front of his fans after 2 months off, and his enthusiasm hopefully comes through in the recordings, which should make up for any hoarseness.

As 77 wore on, Elvis became worn out / worn down, but he was much fresher at the start of the year.
