The 4 essential Elvis albums to take anywhere are:

Elvis
Elvis Is Back!
From Elvis In Memphis
Elvis Country

Maybe its because they all feature his name in the title eh!? ;-)

Really though, Elvis is a better album than Elvis Presley, its his first real album where as Elvis Presley isa compilation of old and new material.

Question: why exclude His Hand In Mine but include the other 2 gospel albums?

If I had to choose from those selections, it would be 'Elvis Country', but to be fair there are more than a couple of contenders in your list, Jeanno.

How about a poll for best studio session(s)

I voted for "Pot Luck" because I love his voice on those songs. Also, it's the only studio album he ever cut where I liked ALL the songs the first time I heard them and STILL like them 40+ years later.

I would have added His Hand In Mine to the list, which is another favourite of mine.
Still, I'm with Doc on this, there are more than one.
I would also like to include the "lost" albums. "For The Asking" and "Tomorrow Is A Long Time" on the list.
Still, it's a tie between the following:

Elvis Presley
Elvis
Elvis Is Back
From Elvis In Memphis
Elvis Country

Then:

His Hand In Mine
Something For Everybody
He Touched Me
How Great Thou Art
Today

They are all great!

Joe -
These are how they charted here in the U.S.:
Elvis Presley #1
Elvis #1
Elvis Is Back! #2
Something For Everybody #1
Pot Luck #4
How Great Thou Art #18
From Elvis In Memphis #13
Elvis Country #12
He Touched Me #79
Today #57
Missing from the poll but should've been included:
His Hand In Mine #13
That's The Way It Is #21
