Did Elvis ride his horses in 75-77?

Mon May 08, 2006 11:21 pm

Just wondering, did Elvis ride his horses in 1975, 1976, and 1977?? I have never seen a picture of him in those years riding his horse. Lotsa of pics from 1968-71 or so, but never seen one pic from him riding in 1975-77. Does anyone have any pics of Elvis doing this?

I believe he won the Grand National riding Red Rum in 1977. Then again, I might have just made that up.

I have not seen a photo from about after 1972 that show Elvis riding his horses. He could've possibly, but there is no photo evidence i've seen to say so. It'll be VERY new to my eyes if i do see one

We know for a fact that Elvis rode a horses' ass onstage at the September '73 Vegas closing show.

I believe Elvis rode a horse from gig to gig during his '76 & '77 tours. He would hire a double to fly on the LISA MARIE so it would look like he over came his fear of flying. This is the true reason why Elvis never toured outside the United States. Later in 1977, when horses could no longer be ridden on the highways, Elvis faked his death and became a clown in the Ringling Brothers circus, only then did he trade in his horse to ride an Elephant. During this time Elvis' favorite horse, Rising sun, faked his death so the plot to kill the Colonel could be followed through. Rising Sun held the Colonel for ransome, and quickly learned nobody wanted the Colonel, there was no choice but to call Sunny and Red to "take care" of the Colonel. After Colonel Parker died Elvis retired from the circus and is now the voice of the geico on the Gieco commercials, a dream come true for Elvis. He has also taken up horse back riding again and plans on recording a tribute to John Wayne within the next 2 months. RCA plans on rehashing these songs every year by putting them in a different order with a different picture, they are also trying to coach him to record a new love songs, gospel and country cd. Elvis still has an open job position with Ringling Brothers, but he claims he wants to explore other options.

Whose bare feet are that on the steps?
And is that a tripod with a camera?

Where's the proof that that's Elvis and Rosemary Alden? It could be Mary Ann and Gilligan for all we know. SKIPPER!!!

Charlie's.

He had to hover around at times like this in case Elvis got thirsty.

Set to tour Europe next year is "Rising Sun - The Concert". The King's legendary stallion will appear on a giant screen via video and eat hay and stuff while original members of the Circle G's staff shovel up virtual horse sh*t on the stage.

Sony BMG will issue a special CD to accompany the tour. This will contain all the songs The King recorded with the word "horse" in the title. As he didn't actually record any such songs, it will be padded out with bonus tracks. These will be in the form of the gaps of silence heard between the tracks on his two first classic albums. It's hoped that a follow-up album will contain all of the audience applause from the Madison Square Garden and Aloha From Hawaii albums.

FTD are scheduled to do extended versions of these releases in 2019.

I have a picture in a book called something like "rare candids"´. There´s a picture of Elvis doing some horseback riding and it´s supposed to be in 1975. It´s definitely a picture taken after 1972. Perhaps I can scan it.

After the period you mention, I've only read a quote from Dr. Nick -- no pictures -- that Elvis was riding his golden palomino, Rising Sun, in the spring and summer of 1975 to get in shape.

Nick thought that was the last time Elvis really tried to take care of his health issues, get some sun and lose weight. Certainly the possible movie deal with Streisand ("A Star Is Born") had him excited.

So sad it was not to last.

More like "Sundown," the great Gordon Lightfoot hit of that time. It would've been perfect for Elvis, too.
