deadringer wrote:Well FTD label plan to release one or more shows from EACH tour and EACH Vegas or Tahoe season. This is why Sept-Oct 74 tour was represented by SOUTH BEND show. This is LOGIC. And South Bend is not really weak show too. It is similar to others from this problematic tour. Thus - a representative choice.

Is this comment directed at me??....I was joking.......okay, call it sarcasm. :)

Larry Dickman: no, to midnightx :-) I understand your sarcasm

Oh....thanks for putting it in perspective.

Imo, the South Bend show FTD released was actually
a pretty good performance. Their's much worst shows
from that tour than this one.

Thoroughly agree Brad!

Sorry to bring this old chestnut up after all this time...........but after listening to this tonight, I have to say, yes its obvious it wasnt the best show he did, but by no means the worst either. To me the way he was able to come up with those one liners to the crowd was in my opinion not the comments of a guy too full of whatever to know what he was doing. I listen to the concerts to get the feel of the man, by that I mean the way he plays with the crowd...if I want to hear him do a good performance of a song I put one of the many albums I have that are not live performances. This will go down as another one of my albums I would listen to often :smt020 :smt034

Yes you are correct and in line with the vast majority opinion on this show. Entertaining, very listenable, and no where near the negative hype that had surrounded the show.

I don't know if DJC ever listened to the Cd, but he went awful quiet on the subject after much pontification as to the supposed awfulness of the performance.

Here's a relevant quote from the Holding The Fort thread:

"Surely you jest, Tony Brown. There are blown lines and missed lyrics all over the place. He starts Fever in the wrong key. Then he introduces Tony himself as Shane Kiester. Charlie has to correct him."

Tony's memory was obviously an unreliable source for dates and venues!!!

Interesting point BIGRED, i mean i just recieved 'HOLDING DOWN THE FORT' on Friday and several things are 'clear' from that soundboard! and similar that however he looked in college park he certainly sounded OK.

Slowly but surely the majority gets the point that it was just a myth..

 Iv'e simply forgotten how many times iv'e listened to this show, but for an audience recording its a damm good one AND compared to the whole Vegas summer 1974 season it's certainly no-where near as bad as parts of the last 3 days shows! In fact it's a listenable show where his excessive talking doesn't make him seem 'out of it', just simply aware of terrible sound that night, a massive screaming audience-which he DOES do a variety of songs for in a decent way that evening, like i can imagine complaining about the sound after the show, but he put in enough powerfull songs to hit the mark and make it a decent show!

Perhaps the most "remarkable" aspect of this show, and others from this tour like South Bend, is Elvis attitude to audience members shouting out requests (be it for songs or scarfs etc). He does display a modicum of impatience with stuff he normally tolerated good naturedly!!

Mon Nov 06, 2006 10:40 pm

oh i don't know about that!, i thought the way he diplomatically deals with screaming fans wasn't bad at all!, it's not like before playing the piano in pittsburgh when a fan asks for how great thou art and Elvis snaps back'don't tell me to play it ,i will when i'm ready'

Mon Nov 06, 2006 10:44 pm

No it's not too bad - not rude, just tetchy!!

In Pittsburgh, I thought the fan just shouts out "Play it!!" before Rags To Riches - don't recall the HGTA request.

We had a long debate as to whether the fan responds with "go to hell" after this. I still think they do, but others diagreed.

I still have such feeling that we will reach 300 today... :-)
