Mon Sep 04, 2006 9:06 pm

Hi all

just curious to know if Vernon Presley really appeared in Hee Haw ?

according to imdb, yes " to pay tribute to his famous son, Elvis, who had died just months earlier. With liberal use of archive footage, Vernon Presley spoke about how Elvis was a big fan and regular viewer of "Hee Haw" and that the world would always love him and remember his music."

but VP was very ill in 77 78 ? so anyone ever saw him in hee haw ?

I do have a picture of Vernon on the set of HeeHaw with the cast of the show, which included Linda Thompson. It was printed in one of the USA tabloids at the time. He looks a completely broken man, scarcely aware of where he is.

I don't have a photo, but here are some links which confirm it. The last one lists all of Vernon's screen credits:

TV Guide article - excerpt:
TV Guide wrote:But not all the guests on the show were from country music. Frequently, there were singers from other genres who became popular with country audiences, plus actors and comedians appeared as well. One of the most memorable segments aired in early 1978, when Elvis Presley's father, Vernon Presley, delivered a tribute to his then-recently deceased son. Emotional tributes have also been offered for cast members who had passed away during the series' run.

Vernon did indeed appear on Hee Haw, I recently came across the video in my collection as I was transfering videotape to DVD.

It goes like this-

A very frail looking Vernon is seated with Buck Owens on his right and Linda Thompson on his left-Owens introduces him and Vernon says...
"Thank You Buck and I am really happy to be here.
And folks this is a real fine bunch of people here at Hee Haw.
And now here is the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet to sing one of Elvis' favorite hymns...Amazing Grace"

The quartet is made up of Grandpa Jones - Roy Clark- Kenny Price and Buck Owens. Charlie McCoy accompanies on Harmonica.

A very short clips, but pretty well publicized when it first aired in 1978

I thought you'd appreciate this...I almost spit my Diet Mt. Dew when I read your first post...

Linda looks hot, let's focus on that instead of some blue grass hillbilly's

Vernon must have been a deeply saddened man, unable to trust anyone.
His telephone interview just after Elvis died is much more fascinating than this..

I did't know about this stuff though.
Thanks for posting..

Cheers, RJ
