Which Elvis song can make you cry?

Wed Aug 16, 2006 12:18 am

Which Elvis song can make you cry?
And then I don't mean because it's that bad.
No, which song can bring a tear to your eye or make you cry, because it's so full of emotion, so sad, etc
I've got a few that did that with me, but the most time it happens is with the song For ol' times sake. It's just so..sad.
It brings tears to my eyes almost all the time I listen to it.
Another song that did that was "I've lost you', but that was also because it was over between me and my girlfriend
Now, if you're not THAT emotional, (For example I cried with "The Green Mile", I cried with "Schindler's List", etc) or you don't want to admit you cry because you are a man, which Elvis songs can give you goosebumps?

"Love Coming Down".

I get carried away very easily - emotional son of a bitch.

Both songs, Love Coming Down and For Ol' Times Sake is very touching.

But i haven't cried during them yet..

The tribute song "I Still Cry" is fantastic too

The chorus to "I've Lost You" -- especially the last line -- is indeed very powerful.

Some may laugh, but Elvis' sincerity in singing "Old Shep" can be very moving. He lost his own dog to mange when he was young, and the pain is evident in his near-perfect vocal.

"Memories" used to really hit hard not long after Elvis had died. And NBC-TV used it to bookend their "Memories of Elvis" special of Nov '77, hosted by Ann-Margret.

And famed session guitarist Tommy Tedesco recalled that any time he heard the June 1968 studio recording of "Memories," it brought tears to his eyes because both he and another musician on the session were going through painful breakups at the time.

So the sympathetic backing, coupled with Elvis' tremendous vocal, is especially heartfelt on "Memories."

No question, "Indescribably Blue".

When I lost a family member a few years ago, this song absolutely
ripped me up.

"There's no way to explain it
The way that I miss you
And my love, you have left me
Indescribably blue

I talk to your picture
My fav'rite one of you
I wish that you were here with me
But what good will it do

Having no way to tell you
The pain that I've been through
Oh, my love, you have left me
Indescribably blue
Yes, my love, you have left me
Indescribably blue
"

The lyrics still sting, to this very day.
Some songs are timeless ... and Elvis' delivery is simply stunning.

LIOR, now you're about to make me cry!

Hope you find someone -- until then, be careful out there in the Promised Land.

The two for me are -

1.American Trilogy.........Hush little baby don't you cry. You know your dadies bound to die.

2.My Way

Im 34 and I do rember when Elvis died, But what I remeber most is my mother and I watching some special a few years later and when those songs came on my mother lost it...so it just reminds me of what a loss it was for her.

My Boy

You're sleeping son, I know
But, really, this can't wait
I wanted to explain
Before it gets too late
For your mother and me
Love has finally died
This is no happy home
But God knows how I've tried

Because you're all I have, my boy
You are my life, my pride, my joy
And if I stay, I stay because of you, my boy

I know it's hard to understand
Why did we ever start?
We're more like strangers now
Each acting out a part
I have laughed, I have cried
I have lost every game
Taken all I can take
But I'll stay just the same

Because you're all I have, my boy
You are my life, my pride, my joy
And if I stay, I stay because of you, my boy
Sleep on, you haven't heard a word

Perhaps it's just as well
Why spoil your little dreams
Why put you through the hell
Life is no fairytale
As one day you will know
But now you're just a child
I'll stay here and watch you grow

Because you're all I have, my boy
You are my life, my pride, my joy
And if I stay, I stay because of you, my boy

sniff sniff !!! :(

Yup.........I have to expand my list by another song Sam

Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:57 am

I get both tears in my eyes and goosebumps when i hear take 3 of 'The sound of your cry'. Elvis sounds liek he's crying while singing it, which is a simply awesome effect.

I have got tears in my eyes while singing songs of Elvis's, but that don't really count. Goosebump songs, the end of 'What now my love' would have to be high on a list from a list of many others.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 9:48 am

The plaintive atmosphere of "Mamie, Mamie" always gets to me.

Wed Aug 16, 2006 11:03 am

I guess the song that really rips me up would have to be Three Corn Patches.......... Don't tell Curtis !
