FUNKY FINGERS

Post by jeanno »

Another recording was also made here 'UNRELEASED' called 'FUNKY FlNGERS' Over the years, one of the many rumoured unreleased tracks was a song called 'Funky Fingers'. I can shed some light on its history. FF is a Tony Joe White composition. White was recording tracks for his next Monument album ('Tony Joe')at RCA Studio B in 1970, with Jerry Carrigan, Norbert Putnam & David Briggs. The producer was Billy Swan & the engineer was Al Pachucki. According to White's fan magazine ('Swamp Box' January 1996), he recorded FF as an instrumental, but Monument weren't impressed with it so it never got released. My guess is that FF was recorded during the day on 6 June '70, while Elvis was recording at night. This might explain the 'missing' matrix numbers ZPA4 1611/1612 and the track's link with Elvis. The 'Tony Joe' album credits include a 'special thanks to Mary and Felton Jarvis'.
Here is the link :

Can any expert shed some light about that? Another Tony Joe recording would be so good! 8)

I heard rumours that Elvis recorded Funky Fingers. But that´s only rumours.

It would be great without a doubt.

It's not a good rendition, and the tape is not complete!

I would rather see "Feelings" released first

"Funky Fingers" was indeed written by White, registered with BMI, and published by Combine Music.

Ernst discussed the song in 2002:
So when we do [an FTD] package ... We don’t deliberately leave anything out. There’s no reason to go home and speculate ‘Well they’re keeping that version of ‘Funky Fingers’" ... to themselves. That’s not the idea. We might hold back one or two goodies if we have a ‘T, T & Forever’ box-set coming out at some stage . . . but it’s not supposed to be a guessing game and it shouldn’t leave you wondering why they are holding all this stuff back.

Hope this helps a bit.

NO RECORDING MADE

Post by TONY »

I belive that NO recording of this song was EVER made by Elvis. This is all a bit hopeful. As for "Feelings", I think that MAY exist, but when it will see the light of day is anybody's guess. Ernst won't tell you. He will tell you, "We can all dream".....

The "excitement" over the possibility that Elvis ran down the Morris Albert hit "Feelings" at Graceland in 1976 recalls a classic SNL "Update" report from Norm MacDonald.

Upon the release of a holiday disc from Kenny G, he simply said, "Merry Christmas Jesus, I hope you like crap."

   A fellow SNL lover Doc???

I used to love MacDonald's stint at the "Update" desk. never could figure out why he got the boot. Especially after that gravelly-voiced turd (I forget his name.......mercifully) was chosen as his replacement.

Sometimes. They're really missing Will Ferrell these days.

Apparently, his weekly OJ jokes were too much for a high-ranking NBC executive (D.O) who had a longtime friendship with Simpson.

Hey Keith F,

Have you heard Feelings? Is it from a micro cassette or reel to reel? I guess they save it for next year (if it's in the hands of BMG). Or possibly a new box set. It's too much to hope for it being included on the coming FTD album even though it should be included if it's been found.

What about Funky Fingers? Is it an instrumental or not? A possible (or probably impossible) instrumental Elvis version isn't too thrilling...

No doubt......Ferrel was the only consistently funny cast member for quite a while. But it's cyclical........they lose the best members to movies, etc......show sucks like a Hoover for a season or two........then someone new emerges.

Interesting..........POLITICSPOLITICSPOLITICS........Colin Quinn is the raspy dolt that replaced Norm. The absolute nadir of "Update". He was pitiful.
