#216570

Post by Elvisman77 »

An old friend of mine once told me that Elvis took his daughter Lisa Marie to see A New Hope When it came out in theaters in 1977. Any truth to that. Kinda wonderd what he thought of Lord Vader LOL

It has been reported, he tried to get a print to show Lisa Mare, but couldn't, so he probably never saw STAR WARS.

I always thought Elvis would have made a decent Han Solo.

Didn't Elvis himself watch Star Wars on August 10, 1977 --- during his last visit to a theater

?

The last movie Elvis caught in the cinema was "The Spy Who Loved Me."

Of course, Elvis would not have known the movie as A New Hope, simply as Star Wars. Although the episode title appears in the original movie, it's only since the recent trilogy that A New Hope has been added to the title, officially so to speak, although I suspect that it was George Lucas' intention all along.

The thought of Elvis as Han Solo is an interesting one, not least for me, because it would have meant that Elvis would have spent a great deal of time at Elstree Film Studios, less than a mile from where I live. Indeed, Elvis could have gone on to play Indiana Jones. Only kidding.

Still, I never got the impression Elvis was much of a science fiction fan in the most direct sense, and his efforts to see Star Wars were more for the sake of his daughter than himself, so would he have agreed to appear in Star Wars if he had been asked?

Imagine the entire cast of Star Wars (first trilogy) on a beach singing "Slicin' Sand". We could have some fun with this.

Thank goodness Elvis didn't associate himself with such infantile nonsense!

and if George Lucas hadn't associated himself with such infantile nonsense,
he wouldn't be the billionaire he is today.

and his company ILM wouldn't exist to make storytelling more detailed on screen - no Titanic, no Toy Story, no Jurassic Park, no ET, no Indiana Jones etc.

Star Wars opened in May 1977. So did Elvis hear about the film prior to August? And couldn't he get a print for a screening at home (mainly for Lisa and her friends), because all prints were so popular and in use at the theaters?

More trivia:

Kurt Russell, Nick Nolte, Christopher Walken, Al Pacino and Perry King were all candidates for the role of Han Solo.

financed by the high gross of American Graffiti (1973) - >
The soundtrack was originally to consist of some 80 classic Rock'n'Roll songs from the 50s and 60s, but the budget couldn't stretch far enough to get licenses to afford that many. It was eventually whittled down to 45, with the Elvis Presley songs left out.

Absolutely. Aren't we glad that Elvis was so careful choosing the movies he made?

His time was taken up on other such stuff !

Perhaps it's an age thing, but I never could get into the whole Star Wars thing.

For real sci-fi give me the Alien series anyday !

And that Ripley - I would !

"Thank you very much. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the big, freaky International Hotel. Those little weirdo dolls on the walls. And those little funky angels on the ceiling. Uh, this is my first live appearance in 9 years. H-uhh! Thank you. I've appeared dead a few times, but this is my first live appearance. Before the evening is up, I will have made a complete and total fool of myself, and I hope you get a kick out of watching it." --EP

I`m a huge film fan, but i could never sit through the Star Wars films. The most i have ever seen was a short clip on tv once, Harrison wooden Ford was piloting a space ship with what looked like a big chimp. I could`nt get to my tv remote fast enough.

As John Cleese once said, "Kids films" !

Can't think what you mean by that.

Someone mentioned Darth Vader.

Saw him in town today.

He was collecting for Children in Need.
