That fifth mic could have been placed next to where a fifth musician (if used) would have been located,or a backing harmony or just simply placed in the room near Elvis and the boys.
I need to read up more on this,i just read that this was the case about the 5 mic's.
The whole thing is so interesting, like the 68 Special the way that was recorded because of costs etc.
When you read up on this - you might wonder how - 5 mikes can be placed seperately onto quarter inch tape back in the 50's.
Sam is truely amazing - a little back water studio using quarter inch multi tape - and those poor fools at Ampex having to use half inch where they managed to cram three tracks.
I don't believe that Sam used 5 mikes - what would be the point.
When you get to the point where you really understand your computer, it's probably obsolete
i'll get the ftd set it'll be better.
the memphis set is probily a con job..

I agree. The thing is, it looks like only one song, "that's all right" is improved. And the thing to think about is, it is only an improvement on cd format. Anyone that has owned a mint sun 45 will already have heard this clean sound. So for some, there is nothing new here.
I will wait for ftd.

True, but how many of us own a mint Sun 209? I'm a little surprised that on a board where slight variations in sound are often discussed at length, the prospect of That's All Right in its original form isn't causing any interest at all. I'd like to know more about the book. If it's a substantial offering, the price tag might be justified.

Because we know the FTD Sun project is in progress so we can wait. I won't be buying this one for now. Maybe I will when the FTD Sun project doesn't contain That's All Right Mama in its original form. In the meantime I hope to read some reviews so I can make up mu mind.

But do we know which version Ernst will use?
Yes. See the Kevan Budd thread where he confirms the dry sound will be used.
I tend to hear you on that, Colin and see the price-gouging thread
regarding FTD's for more on how some of us have to be careful
how often we shell out for such sets....

Good point! Hearing TAM sans RCA's echo sounds inviting!
