If that's the case, then we're in trouble...

what a damn shame...

Sony has repackaged 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong into a budget Hits title and has it in mass quantities at Wal-mart with Willie Nelson, Aerosmith and other Columbia artists.....what a load of crap...it cheapens Elvis even more....I don't think I am going to like Sony owning BMG....it seems to be getting worse...

I disagree...

It wasn't perfect (the mixing) by any means, but a step in the right direction IMO :!:

That 1987 release of the Memphis Record should have included ALL the trax, instead of the paltry 23 we got.
The Memphis Record cd release from 1987 was a major step in the right direction, indeed!

Up 'till then, it was the best sounding Elvis cd ever released, in my opinion!

Too damned a shame that they decided to not make it a double cd, a la The Top Ten Hits released the same year!

Plus: Then they wouldn't have had to shave and fade early some of the songs a few seconds here and there, to make room for the 23 songs on 1 cd...

The Memphis Record is still one of my most treasured Elvis cd's in my collection.

Glad to find others that agree with me on the Memphis Record! I find it a delight to listen to in headphones because of the mixing.

Rubberneckin' was one of those shaved ones. What a delight it would have been to have it on two discs way back when.

I also know that this disc opened up casual fans to these great sessions as they were unaware that Elvis recorded such great material.

Jordan.....you post made me smile....I love the art too...but sometimes I have to say "no" to things such as "Love Elvis", "Love Songs", "Jukebox Hits" etc...just so I can afford most of the FTD collection. So good for you that you can get them all and post a pleasent post to make us smile.

Look at it this way, Jordan. The distributors of the CD appreciate your business.

This doesn't stand up, does it ?

If you didn't have one Bobby Darin CD, you couldn't be at all interested in him.

If you were, you'd surely have at least a previous hit compilation.

Unless, of course, there hadn't been one for years.

But Elvis has had compilation CD's very recently.

Big sellers, too.

Surely anyone even slightly interested in him has 30 # 1's ?

If Hitstory is a big seller, I'll be amazed.

ColinB, I rented the movie Beyond The Sea(recently) and the next day I went out and bought myself The Hit Singles Collection that Rhino put out in 2002. I ALWAYS look at the date when I buy any CD especially a hits collection. So I figure some people like me will see Elvis and 2005 next to the name and buy it instead of something that says 2002 for example.

Somehow I doubt that most CD buyers are as discerning as you are !

I tend to pick CD's on the basis of artist, content, packaging and price.

Just to be clear......does the U.S release of History feature all newly re-mastered track in DSD by Vic Anesisini (meaning that none of the tracks has the same sound/mixing as the old releases) :?:

Nowhere do the written credits on the US Hitstory state that the discs were mastered using DSD technology.

You are dead right. All 3 discs sound phenomenal. Totally different masterings of E1 & E2. In some cases the actual takes have been changed.

Thanks to Mink for the inside dirt on this "new" release.

I'm not sure if I should care, though. I'm been swept
up by audiophile concerns since joining this board in 2002.

At the same time, I've railed against RCA/BMG's cynical doling out
of material and refusal to respect the Elvis catalog.

Colin's right: the notion that we need phony, "new" hit comps
over and over rings false even with the casual fan. (See the
below thread for
more on what's happened to the Elvis catalog:)

http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=384&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

The only way I'll buy this is dirt cheap AND used- for the audio
goodies that Mink seems to say await us. On pricipal alone,
buy it used, folks!

In September 2002, I swallowed hard and supported the new
release and bought it new. In 2005, there's no way I'm going
to buy these songs new again -not in this cynical kind
of release.

I have to admit I am tempted after learning the differences...but my plans are to buy it used at the cheapest price that I can....

That's the only acceptable way to acquire this set, if you ask me!

Otherwise, you're "part of the problem"!

Keep your hands off of that f*****g release!!!!!!

I received it today, the UK DELUXE (!!!!) Version - and NO!!!! the first two discs are not, in words: n o t in remastered in DSD. It's the same old mix once more again.

F*** IT!!!!!!

No wonder that the Elvis world is so cruel to Jorgensen and co sometimes ... they promise something to get their hands on my money and then they don't do what they've promised before.... wasn't it announced that the british DE LUXE version of HITSTORY has the DSD master versions!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm really p***** off, man. Really. &§/")$ them all in the &§$

Actually that was discussed on here weeks ago, maybe you missed it. BMG Europe wanted to release their own configuration of the set and as a consequence it was produced differently. These things are largely a matter of production schedules and for the U.K. being able to release a different track configuration probably meant a delay in the production that did not afford them to be able to use the DSD masters prepared for the U.S. release. I don't believe this has anything to do with Ernst, happens all the time in the music industry (how many versions of the new Paul McCartney album are out there)?

Okay, I've searched this whole thread a couple of times now and didn't find the posting of another member who stated here in this thread, that Jorgensen had given him the information that the british release will be different from the european release manufactured in the Netherlands!!!! It seems like the moderators have erased that posting!?
