Choose a favorite(1) Elvis country song from 50s,60s,70s.
What are your favorites? One from each decade. My choices are I'm Counting On You, I'll Hold You In My Heart and I Really Don't Want To Know.

When you hear the variety of songs that were sung by 'pure country artists' I think it's difficult to define what country truely is, especially when the songs are sung by our guy....but when I hear early morning rain I think that Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson or any classic country artist could have sung it, so it's pretty close to country
OK I stop being serious now

50s - When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again
60s - True Love Travels On A Gravel Road
70s - I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water
But it's hard sometimes to know what is and isn't country. Even on Elvis Country itself, the lines are blurred.
But hey that was Elvis - he threw all kinds of music into the pot and mixed it all up. That's why they noticed him in the first place. He sang all kinds!

I find it a great song too but what I meant is that if you thought of it as a 60s tune because Elvis did it live in 1969 then you would have followed the plan to include just one song from every decade.Hammer wrote:I think of it as a song that makes me happy and wanna cry at the same time.......which makes it timeless and great to romamce your wife on......I know I am an old softieJLGB wrote:So when you think of Funny How Time Slips Away you are thinking of that 1969 rarity?Hammer wrote:Without discussing about the definition of country/hillbilly/rockabilly......blue moon of kentucky, early morning rain and funny how time slips away......ask me tomorrow and you may get another list

Also Until It's Time For You To Go and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. Mind you we're really talking folk rock or folk influenced music here because none of these songs are true traditional folk songs.JLGB wrote:Don't Think Twice It's all Right can be put in that category. Yeah a lot if it is hard to pinpoint. All I know that it is good. Cannot leave out "He'll Have to Go" last song Elvis recorded in a studio type recording. And country music at its finest for me.familyjules wrote:Also Until It's Time For You To Go and The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.
