I think of it as a song that makes me happy and wanna cry at the same time.......which makes it timeless and great to romamce your wife on......I know I am an old softie

When you hear the variety of songs that were sung by 'pure country artists' I think it's difficult to define what country truely is, especially when the songs are sung by our guy....but when I hear early morning rain I think that Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson or any classic country artist could have sung it, so it's pretty close to country

I find it a great song too but what I meant is that if you thought of it as a 60s tune because Elvis did it live in 1969 then you would have followed the plan to include just one song from every decade.

Yeah a lot if it is hard to pinpoint. All I know that it is good. Cannot leave out "He'll Have to Go" last song Elvis recorded in a studio type recording. And country music at its finest for me.
