My Wish Came True was one of the very first Elvis songs that I just loved from the first time I heard. The combination of a great ballad, Elvis' lead vocals and Millie Kirkham's incredible soprano back up make this a classic, in my opinion.

Don't take it personally, friend. Of course, as a fan of the movie,
I know that. But by the same rationale, we should excuse all the movie soundtrack material of the '60s because, "after all, So if Elvis hadnt sung that, the film wouldnt have made sense."

I actually think "Steadfast, Loyal and True" is effective in the film, even affecting without it.
But all told, such numbers do add up as a detraction when you're
reviewing him merely as a "recording artist."

By the way, I've never been that fond of "Playing For Keeps" or especially
"My Wish Came True" but some have pointed out the the wonders
of these songs. I do like his voice on these. The bass on "Keeps"
is nice, too. You can have the background singers on "Wish" though!

I've come around to appreciating MY WISH CAME TRUE but there's
a reason why it landed on one of those Army-era Lps of leftovers.

Of his stellar, nearly-beyond-criticism '50s catalog, this is at least
one that can be called an "acquired taste."

Does the "dreck" of the '50s outrank that of other decades?

The only fifties album it appeared on was Gold Records vol 2.

Well it wasn't included because they had to have a boring song. It was chosen because it was his school song. To see Danny sing his school song for an audience of thugs in a dodgy club perfectly fitted in with and advanced the plot.

Are you kidding me?Padre is awful and Elvis voice is far from the best.Also I really dislike the studio master of fairytale......The alternate take(s) and some of the live versions are much better.
