Padre is one of the best songs Elvis ever recorded IMHO.
Are you kidding me?Padre is awful and Elvis voice is far from the best. Also I really dislike the studio master of fairytale......The alternate take(s) and some of the live versions are much better.
Just my opinion though....
In my opinion Elvis showed some of his best vocals on the song....

Sorry to quote myself...but I just thought of that version where Elvis sings 'I take a piss in every fountain' which is obviously my favourite Heart of Rome....if there is any

We might not want to knock those who like certain songs that others are not fond of. What fun would it be if everyone on here liked and disliked exactly the same material?

That's what makes it fun to be an Elvis fan. I'm glad we all like different things. So we shouldn't criticize those who like something different than you.

Afterall, it's not their fault that they are tone deaf and like Padre.

It's not their fault that they are mental and like Song Of The Shrimp.

It's not their fault that they are a complete and total moron if they like Yoga Is As Yoga Does.

So get off their back and stop criticizing them!

ok, sweet caroline, high heeled sneakers etc...are all favs of mine.

song of the shrimp is so sadisticly funny, that it's hysterical. it's the let's make you care about your food song and making you feel sorry for the poor little shrimpies. roflmao. it has to get the award for being absolutely the saddest animal song ever after old shep (WHICH I LOVE, because it really is a classic song--which admittedly song of the shrimp is not). song of the shrimp is like watching bambi.

i double over in laughter until my eyes water whenever the verse about the baby shrimp telling the mama shrimp he's going for a trip to louisiane.

and i like old mcdonald way more than dominic. old mcdonald--especially with the scene is hilarious to me. ok, so i have no problems against children's songs...and let's face it--it's without a doubt the best version ever recorded. sure beats "wee can sing".

i hate the impossible dream. gag me with a spoon. i always push next on my cd player. it has to do with it bringing up really bad memories of the song from rehab. i tried to plug my ears then, and not even elvis could save it (and that is rare).

not fond of it's impossible either, for that matter.

any song featuring the whiny voice of shelly fabares is grinding and unlistenable. god, why! why! did they ever allow her to sing on an elvis track???!!!

"Thank you very much. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the big, freaky International Hotel. Those little weirdo dolls on the walls. And those little funky angels on the ceiling. Uh, this is my first live appearance in 9 years. H-uhh! Thank you. I've appeared dead a few times, but this is my first live appearance. Before the evening is up, I will have made a complete and total fool of myself, and I hope you get a kick out of watching it." --EP

fool is a good song, and mama liked the roses is a hauntingly beautiful song i'm sure he offered as a tribute to his late mother
I find Fool insufferably turgid and Mama Liked the Roses to be too sickly sweet in the sentimentality stakes. Sorry, just my opinion.

My Wish Came True was the B side of A Big Hunk O' Love.

The only fifties album it appeared on was Gold Records vol 2.
If that's what it was on, so be it. Besides, when do you take your
spanking for naming "That's All Right" as you did earlier? Folks?

Jerry Nodak wrote: Tutti Fruiti

For once, I may agree with Jerry: "Tutti Fruiti" hasn't worn well.
Maybe Ernst had a point when he left it out of "Elvis '56.

And count me as a fan of "Heart of Rome." What, too "Englbert-ish"
or "Tom Jones-like? Elvis was a singer's singer and shows it here.
Nothing wrong with a few pop songs, and boy did he nail them.

Regarding other choices::

LONG LEGGED GIRL.. (for the time, it sort of rocked..)

BEYOND THE BEND (Very spry and fun song. I like it. What a voice!

SWEET CAROLINE (Yes, a little played out and much more Neil Diamond's song, but nice for the time. Given how in shape he was at
the time, it's hard to put down nearly any TWWII material. But how
about Sweet Angeline?

FOOLS RUSH IN I agree on this. He sounds really tired. This could have been a good song for him. Hearing Brook Benton's version convinces me of that.

I CAN HELP I think this a very nice late-period rocker for Elvis, even if it's too much Billy Swan's song due to its hit status. We should
be glad we have it.

FOR THE HEART Another bright spot from Graceland sessions, but I agree he's not totally with it. Still, I like it! The alternates, too...

FOOL I've come around on this song but I do know Jules means. It's kind of depressing as is I'm Leavin' although LTB has brought me around on that one. The ratio of happy to sad songs was out of whack in the early '70s -but that's how our hero felt...

SW wrote:

I've come around on these, but agree that the first two are still kind
of lame, with those organs and background singers.

But "You'll Be Gone" is one of those great "rarely-heard" Elvis songs!
He wrote some of it, too! What are you, Priscilla?

Mama Liked The Roses: Definitely not a Christmas song but I've tried to like it for the '69 Memphis / Gladys associations. Not his best.

Padre A bit of a train wreck, and I try not to listen to it much, but it has some moments. Not his best.
