Topped only by Suspicious Minds. But, I don't care for Burning Love
"Live" at all. It's the single version for me.
Exactly my view as well!

I just love the studio version, but the live versions don't live up to the single version at all!

Funny it's like that, really!

I have never understood why the Aloha versions of Burning Love are so lame, either...
Maybe it's the way it was arranged on stage?
Seems like Tutt and Scheff didn't got the right beat to it, and Elvis seems a little bit uninspired doing this song at the time...

Having in mind that Elvis actually needed to be persuaded into recording this song at all, he might didn't care for it live, only felt obligated to sing it when it was "fresh" as a single..?

Even the first five seconds in ALOHA is way off of the original.

That "hook" that made it a hit should have been rendered more faithfully.

That said, I'm fine with it.

From that exact song, no. Got a Alizee-in-motion 2nd avatar anymore?

I was thinking that the live versions of "Burning Love" just don't have that prominent piano in the beginning.
The drums, too, aren't heard like in the few five seconds.
Kind of hard to get that exactly when done live, I guess.

Greg,

This particular still is from "Suspicious Minds"....not "Burning Love"......

I agree with everyone that the live versions of Burning Love end up sounding thin.
The original master has a pounding piano intro, driving drum beat, and an echo reminiscent of Heartbreak Hotel.
First time I heard the master, it sounded more like a 50's Elvis than a 70's Elvis.

Whatever it takes, I guess.

The studio version sounds great and fresh on 30 #1 Hits IMO. The studio version has never sounded better than that.

genesim, nice to see that you too picked up that "shot down in flames" line by Caroline. :D

I, for one, liked the 2002's ELV1S remaster version by David Bandeth, who otherwise was reviled by some fans.
But as I recall the Doctor saying, they "rolled off the bass" which was so important to the original.
So it's not really as authentic in the remaster.

And Tony, as I said to Minkahed's second request for a photo: "From that exact song, no."
But thanks for pointing out the song he was singing. :D

I think the Aloha version is the best live version he ever did, BUT I would have liked to hear some more/better guitar work by James, like in the 75 versions I've heard.
Elvis is in total control of the song, it's absolutely flawless.
And I love the way they filmed the "hunka" "hunka" part.
