Beltway To Largo

Sun Feb 05, 2006 1:02 pm

I just received "Beltway to Largo" today. Wow, what an underrated release!!

The content (June 27, 1976 Matinee) is simply fantastic. The audience was probably the best I have heard in a 1976 show so far. Elvis also performed his oldies in a never heard, great spirit.

You can really hear Elvis was pleased by the audience reaction, he also added "Funny How Time Slips Away" and "Help Me" to his programm instead of closing the show after the introductions and "Hound Dog".

This is a must for every serious Elvis collector ...

Damn shame that the cover art features the wrong date.

Mine actually lists 1976, the right date.

I guess this Cover here is from a CDR or from the first of various editions.

Thomas, can't agree more!
This is one of my favourites too..

I actually do like the sound.. once you get used to it.
No soundboard quality, but this release offers a much better representation of an Elvis concert.

Elvis is in a great mood, the audience is very vocal.
I don't have time to write down some highlights, but Love Letters is outstanding!

This release proves Elvis gave fine shows up to June'76.
In June'76, Elvis sounded much better than the way he looked..
We know many shows in July & August were rather poor.

Cheers, RJ

And is that the best choice for a cover shot?

I thought his 2nd version of HURT was maybe the BEST I ever heard him do that song in 1976?

The show turn at the wrong speed, he turn too quickly.

Why, does he "twist and twirl again" as it were?

Seriously, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear the positive comments about the show and I know '76 did have some relative, occasional gems, given the context of his demise...!

But ooh, that cover...! My kindergartener would do better. :D  ::rocks
