That thought probably comes to mind quite frequently when consumers give this album a spin....
Consumers, as opposed to fans.

Rock-a-hula, baby.
And you call yourself an Elvis fan ???
Yes.

Hurt, Danny Boy and For The Heart are the clear highlights in my opinion. I like the groove/feel of Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain but sadly Elvis' vocal is noticeably weaker so couldn't vote for it.

Good observation. The quality of the recording is one of the finer ones from the JRS, but EP's vocals clearly are not up to par. A pretty sad reminder of where things were at because had EP had the vocal control of years past, he could have made this a special track.

Really? There are a few standout performances like "Pledging My Love," "Way Down" and "Unchained Melody" -- but, there is also some real crap like "If You Love Me (Let Me Know)," "Little Darlin'" and the recycled "Let Me Be There." Another hodge-podge release. Poor Felton really wanted to put a solid album together and was forced to assemble a very mixed back of track varying in quality because his recording star had no interest and passion for crafting studio music.
Whatever the reason, his recording star should have not been subjected to recording and touring in the first place.
Poor Felton....?

for me the top song on this album has to be "I'll Never Fall In Love Again"...you can just feel how much he putting into this song.....although from the entire Jungle Room Sessions i would say that Way Down and Moody Blue were my favs, just something about the way he sings them

You have no compassion for Felton? Even with his flaws as a producer, it isn't as if he received any help from Elvis in maximizing the potential of recording sessions as the 70's progressed. RCA wanted him out of the picture for failing to deliver quality albums and the proper number of masters required. Tom Parker was also not a fan. So, under a great amount of pressure, Felton goes into a session ready record a ton of music, and Elvis Presley is holed up at Graceland screwing around with little-to-no interest in recording or being professional. So, once again, Felton ended up with a lack of quality masters, some real lackluster recordings and was seen as a failure by RCA.

The feeling a discerning listener gets is acute embarassment.

This may be the worst Presley master release of the 1970s -- all claims for "Love Me, Love The Life I Lead" notwithstanding.

Even longtime friends, like Marty Lacker, thought it should not have been released. Elvis' voice is not up to snuff, and he is tackling a song made into a standard by Tom Jones. Play the Jones recording back to back with this if you have any doubt.

I am in total agreement, DJC.

I remember when I first saw the song in the tracklist how excited I was that Elvis had recorded it. But then when I played the album... What a disappointment.

Thanks, Jerry. Even if Elvis had been in tip-top shape -- think 1969-1970 -- it's not likely he would have exceeded Jones on that track. But at last we'd have a credible, satifying master to enjoy.

I like them all in the order they play on the original album. For some reason, Never Again, tends to pop up in my mind more often as years go by!

Strange...Love me, love the life I lead is one of my favorites. Just LOVE that song.

But I do agree with you on the "I'll never fall in love again"-part. Just as with several other songs on the EPB album...his voice isn't stable enough or is too weak to do those songs. Not all of them, but a lot of them. :(

I'll Never Fall In Love Again.

The ultimate sad love song, apart from It's Easy For You, Which would've gotten my vote had it been on the album.

i cant argue that Elvis master is better but at the end of the day when I compare the 2 versions I believe Elvis will never fall in love again but i am not remotely convinced by Jones that he will not
