Best track on "Roustabout" LP 1964

Post by dreambear »

Here we have a album that is quite ok. It doesn´t have any of the worst soundtrack songs....well "It´s carnival time" isn´t a masterpiece but of course it fits in the movie. I remove that one from the poll. Some songs are good like the title track. "Big love, big heartache" is a nice ballad. The album is up tempo, but some of the rockers are a bit...well average. Roustabout is a pleasant enough soundtrack album....that I for some reason don´t play that often. The sound quality is good enough. But the one song that I find outstanding is "Little Egypt". I believe that Elvis really liked that song. Do anyone here know if Elvis´ picked this one out for the NBC special himself? I have nothing more to say about this record (but I have to complain about the playing time). I´m looking forward to hear your opinions. By the way, "I´m a Roustabout" is better than most of the tracks on this album.

Vote on!

Regards//Björn

I voted for Big Love, Big Heartache.
The film version was better than the CD version.

An enjoyable movie. A very listenable soundtrack. I voted for Hard Knocks because Little Egypt doesn't need my vote.

I voted for There's a Brand New Day On The Horizon. The classic melody is catchy and the lyrics are upbeat/optimistic ala Follow That Dream.

Gotta be Little Egypt followed by Brand New Day.

Medocre soundtrack, but by no means dreadful.

After a hard fight between "Big love, big heartache" and "Little Egypt", the latter one finally won. Two good tracks!

Thanks for voting!

I like this LP. Nothing earth-shattering, but enjoyable with no really awful songs.

"Little Egypt" is the standout, but I also have a soft spot for "Poison Ivy League".

When I was younger, Stuart Coleman played "Steadfast Loyal And True" and "PIL" one after t'other on his Elvis hour and for years I was convinced this was one song!

Sure, ROUSTABOUT is never going to make an All-Time Greatest Albums list, but it offers a breezy collection of pleasing tunes and ranks among the best of Presley's movie soundtracks. The title cut, "Little Egypt," and especially the dramatic "Big Love, Big Heartache" offer proof not all of Presley's movie recordings can be dismissed without losing some gems along the way.

There's a Brand New Day on the Horizon was my favorite.

Also, Wheels On My Heels and Hard Knocks were very good too.

One of my most played soundtracks when I was a kid. :)
