Best track on "King Creole" LP 1958

#337916

Post by dreambear »

Hello again!

We´re going further with the second soundtrack album. A mixed affair with excellent tracks mixed with lesser good tracks. Crawfish is not bad but a bit odd for Elvis. Doesn´t sound like anything else he recorded.
The original album has just 11 tracks, which must have a bit stingy in 1958. The good news is that I just have to exclude one track, and it must be "Steadfast, loyal and true". Just a school-song, nothing more.

My two favourites are Trouble and Hard headed woman. I chose Hard headed woman, because I prefer the 1968 versions of the first one. My overall feeling is that the music is a bit overproduced, but of course it´s the "New Orleans-feeling" that makes it.

Vote on people!

Regards//Björn

I said "don't ask me why" .... oh never mind!

To me, it's a totally forgettable song and I can never remember how it goes until I hear it. Even Elvis fails to make it memorable.

And sometimes it depends on which day it is, or what mood you are in. So this is really difficult. King Creole is a good song, but I think the arrangement could have been better. Perhaps a little bit more straight forward like "Little sister"

It’s "Trouble" for me. A right-in-your-face kind of song. Great lyrics, fantastic delivery. The 1968 version is better, but it’s still the best track from that LP. Of course, ask me another day and I might say something else. That’s the beauty of Elvis, isn’t it, and one of the reasons we keep going back for more?

Trouble....mainly because it kicks off the 68 comeback in such a fantastic way, that makes this one of my alltime favourites

"New Orleans" is utterly superb. WAY better than "Viva Las Vegas" (though VLV is still excellent) -- so that should tell you something! I think it needs better attention.

I wholeheartedly agree ...

What an awesome, underrated and underappreciated, lil track ...

At the time, I was shocked, and enlightened, to see the tune included in the 1997 box set, PLATINUM.
