Something of a slight exaggeration. While mobile phones and social networking sites have their downside, it seems to me that society has become far more interconnected through both of these.
Without the web, Elvis fans wouldn't be able to gather together here.
Without facebook, we wouldn't be in contact with half as many people as we are, and school friends are no longer separated on that last day of school when they forget to exchange addresses or phone numbers.
Without twitter we wouldn't have the chance to speak our minds about the things important to us or spread the word about important events or incidents (whether it be a news story or warning people to stay away from a certain road due to a traffic accident).
The mobile phone is connected to all these and, yes, there are always people who are addicted to them, but our eagerness to always be connected to other people should be seen as a blessing not a curse.
