On evidence of the above, it literally appears to be two discs glued together on the label side, so as to present cd playing on one side and dvd playing on the other. Obviously it's more sophisticated than that, but it does indeed look like two discs (even with a ridge in the middle where the two look as if they come together).

Because the DualDisc CD layer did not conform to Red Book specifications, Philips and Sony refused to allow DualDisc titles to carry the CD logo and most DualDiscs contain one of two warnings:
"This disc is intended to play on standard DVD and CD players.
May not play on certain car, slot load players and mega-disc changers."
