this same thing happened to me.
I have learned (through my experience) that when it comes time for a company to reduce their operating expenses, they want to lay off as few people as possible. So, they tend to lay off the highest paid people on their staff to save th most money.. So, if you are making good money at your job, you have a better chance of getting laid off than a lower paid worker.
