Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
Yes Tyson has changed a lot, what I like about him is his self awareness and the honesty he shows when recalling events from his past. I'm really looking forward to his book.

Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
Tyson seems to be really happy with life these days.
While he was boxing he had a reputation to be the 'baddest man on the planet' and i always felt his anger was just a front to how he really was.

Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
When Tyson was younger he was crazy, he thought he could do what ever he wanted to and this behaviour pre-dated the Don King era. There were payoffs to people before and after he became champ.
He was also involved in drug use, which he freely admits, I remember reading(I don't know whether it's true) that at his rape trial his behaviour was trying to be blamed on him using steroids!
But now he seems to have got his life together and is in a good place and hopefully he can stay there but listening to him on the show I just get the feeling that it could all fall apart at any given time.

His biggest test was when his daughter tragically died and i thought he handled that really well.
Tyson seems to be a totally changed person than the one we know from his past.

Mike Tyson has been through a lot and come a long way. God bless him.
Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
Good to see Tyson once again say "there's no doubt" Muhammad Ali was the greatest of all-time.

Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
Yes and Tyson, who is a boxing historian, is a pretty good judge of fighters. Because of his association with Jim Jacob's and Bill Cayton he has seen practically all of the great and not so great fighters that have been filmed.
It made me smile when he said he visited Ali and Ali was reading books on his friends Sam Cooke and Elvis Presley!

Without question.jacob wrote:Yes and Tyson, who is a boxing historian, is a pretty good judge of fighters.
The video he made with Harry Carpenter in the 80's [below] was an eye-opener into the tremendous knowledge he has on the fight game.
..
I missed that part. Whereabouts does he mention it?jacob wrote:It made me smile when he said he visited Ali and Ali was reading books on his friends Sam Cooke and Elvis Presley!

Although not related, I always found this clip of Tyson with Larry Holmes pretty funny.

It seems as if Mike's therapy has been invaluable to his growth. He sounds like he has gained insights through great efforts in his inner work. Frank Bruno is another smart man, who emerged from therapy wiser than many, many people.
Mike and a few boxers such as Chris Eubank always seem to take opportunities to rise above their raising. Both Tyson and Eubank have tremendous interest in history and art.
But it still takes work to maintain those gains, so I hope he remembers the inner world. His life will then be even better.

This was filmed in 1987 when Tyson was over in the UK to watch Frank Bruno fight James Tillis.elvisalisellers wrote:Without question.jacob wrote:Yes and Tyson, who is a boxing historian, is a pretty good judge of fighters.

Interesting how Tyson describes how highly he ranked Joe Louis, even saying that Ali would have found it hard to have beaten Louis and even that Ali would have been considered a 'bum' if they would have met.
In many peoples opinions Joe Louis was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time and successfully defended the title 25 times a record that no other Heavyweight has achieved since and it was at a time when there was just one belt and not 3 or for belts for the World Heavyweight Title.

In more peoples opinions [including your hero Tyson] Muhammad Ali was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time.Bodie wrote:In many peoples opinions Joe Louis was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time...
Kevin McBride is a close second, though.

Tyson is not my hero.elvisalisellers wrote:In more peoples opinions [including your hero Tyson] Muhammad Ali was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time.Bodie wrote:In many peoples opinions Joe Louis was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time...
Joe Louis achieved more successful Heavyweight defences than Ali or any other Heavyweight did.
If Ali was that great he would have easily beaten Frazier and Norton and both those fighters beat Ali and in their other fights with him it was a very close decision.
Louis was a much better boxer and harder puncher than both Frazier and Norton.
Louis would have knocked out Ali.
End of story.
Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
Muhammad Ali fought and beat better opposition [2 of whom regularly appear in the all-time top 10 heavyweight lists] than what Louis did.Bodie wrote:Joe Louis achieved more successful Heavyweight defences than Ali or any other Heavyweight did.elvisalisellers wrote:In more peoples opinions [including your hero Tyson] Muhammad Ali was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time.Bodie wrote:In many peoples opinions Joe Louis was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time...
And all of this in the widely acknowledged golden age of heavyweight boxing.

Are you that dumb not to realize that styles make fights?
You are comedy gold!Bodie wrote:Louis would have knocked out Ali.
So not only do you favour Mike Tyson knocking out Muhammad Ali early but also flat-footed Joe Louis.
Although in your world it counts for nothing, let me remind you once again: unlike Joe Louis and Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali was never knocked out during 61 pro-fights.
One final point, what are your thoughts on Muhammad Ali refusing to be inducted into the armed forces to fight the war in Vietnam?
Just curious.

Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
What's 'not being knocked out' got to do with anything? Rocky Marciano was never knocked out or stopped in his 49-fight career but is he ranked higher than Joe Louis, who he beat? Of course not.elvisalisellers wrote:Muhammad Ali fought and beat better opposition [2 of whom regularly appear in the all-time top 10 heavyweight lists] than what Louis did.Bodie wrote:Joe Louis achieved more successful Heavyweight defences than Ali or any other Heavyweight did.elvisalisellers wrote:In more peoples opinions [including your hero Tyson] Muhammad Ali was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time.Bodie wrote:In many peoples opinions Joe Louis was the Greatest Heavyweight of all time...

Louis fought the best fighters of his era in a 11-year and 25 defences of the World Heavyweight Title, something Ali never achieved.
I'm not an Ali fan,he was a great entertainer and showman but he showed disrespect towards other fighters and made a number of racist comments with his anti-white views.
I have no thoughts on his refusal to be inducted into the armed forces to fight the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War should never have happened but would he have refused to fight the Japanese after the attack on Pearl Harbor when the US declared war on Japan? I think its likely that he would have done.

Ali did make a number of comments that were anti-white and did disrespect a number of other fighters.
What's prejudiced about that? I'm curious and don't call my posts prejudiced unless you can back up those claims.

Bodie I didn't see anything prejudiced in your statements.
Btw,
His mamma named him Clay, I'm going to call him Clay.
My escape from society continues...

Re: Mike Tyson-Howard Stern show
I don't know if he's in Hangover 3 but I recently saw him in the sit com How I Met Your Mother-playing himself.
As for Ali and Tyson, who knows what could have happened on any given day, they were both the best of their era's hence the comparisons. What is apparent, when looking back, is they both brought excitement and a renewed interest to the sport which today is lacking. I like both fighters(Tyson's my favourite)but it has to be said Ali walked through the fire on more occasions, he had the discipline that Tyson didn't. Tyson freely admits that he fell out of love with boxing and this led to his downfall. But could he have beaten Ali? Who knows, as said before you can't jump era's so the question is going to be just that and never answered.
