The Grand Ol' Opry inspired Conway Twitty to record The Grandest Lady Of Them All.

She's never in the spotlight, but everybody knows she's the star......

Actually, Peggy Sue (the song) was originally called Cindy Lou after Buddy's niece (the daughter of his sister Pat). It was Jerry Allison who talked Buddy into renaming it Peggy Sue as he wanted to impress (or make up with) his girlfriend Peggy Sue Gerron.

Thanks Ian. I am familar with the origins of the song. It's interesting how many songs evolve from their original concepts.

Kindest regards,

Jake.

She also inspired 'Wonderful Tonight'. She must have done something to upset him because if he'd have written just one more she'd have had her own EP.

Radio stations refused to play the song back then because Conway wasn't a member of the Grand Ole Opry (in fact never was). But still the song reached #16 on the US-Country-Charts.

Also Janis Joplin inspired Kris Kristofferson to write "Black And Blue". Posthumous.

An unnamed Punk groupie inspired Paul Weller to write, and The Jam to record, "The Butterfly Collector", possibly the most scathing set of lyrics ever put down... although I'm sure they were about my ex wife!
