I think its a disgrace that Rolf and other celebs have been named and publicly shamed without any charges brought against them.

I totally agree.

Even if they are found to be wholly innocent, the mere fact that they were reported in the press to be involved in such and such will stay with them and be forever associated with them for ever. It was this kind of thing that ruined the totally innocent Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. He was one of the biggest stars on the planet one day - and a total social pariah the next.

Even though his innocence was reported and his pardon granted, the public in general chose to ignore it to the startling effect that even now, almost a century later, he is still often referred to as a murderer and rapist.

There's some definite band-wagon jumpage going on since Sir Jimmy lost his right to be a sir. If they get the right men, I'm all for it. But don't go ruining everyone in the process.

That's very true. The same happened to Jack Pickford two years prior to Arbuckle, although Pickford's career was semi-revived for a couple of years. Interestingly, the least likely newspaper was behind Pickford's trial by media - the well-respected New York Times.

Arrested in March but still not charged. I don't know the legal postion regarding anonymity for those arrested for sex abuse. Is it nomal to name those arrested?

Certainly, whenever a person is arrested for, say, a murder-before we find out trhrough the courts if they actually done it- names and photos appear in the newspapers or online (that less-controllable place). is it fair in sexual abuse cases to name the accused when they are not kown as being a serial offender?

It doesn't seem right to me. Perhaps the argument is, that by naming the accused, others will now come forward - as happened in the Savile case, and in some rape cases whre the victim had waived their anonymity to encourage others to come forward with evidence and help to secure the conviction of the accused.

I don't know, but I do feel that this is a tough decison that always harms someone.

Well, Rolf Harris has been charged today.

Still find this one hard to believe.

Very surprised about Rolf. On a more positive note - comedian Jim Davidson has been cleared of all charges.

Yes, Jim certainly had a big break there.

It appears, sadly, that there is actual proof with Harris as he has been charged with taking indecent images as well only last year. Sad times really for anyone who grew up in the years when our TV screens were dominated by these men.
