Richard Pryor tells Jerry Lewis "You're the god of comedy"

I was lucky enough to see Jerry Lewis perform last weekend at the NYCB Theater at Westbury (formerly the Westbury Music Fair) and for an 87 year old man that's been in show business for 60 years he was amazing. He had no 'act', he spoke with the audience for 2 hours and showed clips from various points in his career. What an amazing, funny, unscripted and just an overall amazing show. Jerry Lewis is truly the 'king of comedy', and as this brilliant clip from the Merv Griffin show in 1966 will attest, a young 25 year old upstart comic named Richard Pryor tells Jerry that he is the 'god of comedy' and means it. This is just absolutely amazing and very poignant piece of footage….

Jerry started working solo in 1943. He's been working steadily for the past 70 years.

The reason he must sit is the pulmonary fibrosis. You never recover from that and if he uses too much energy, he needs oxygen.

Great that he is still performing for audiences, educating them, AND making them laugh.

I have fond memories of seeing Martin-Lewis flicks at the drive in. Martin, so suave and handsome, Jerry, so goofy, and off-the-wall. :)

The Martin-Lewis split was big news, then Dean and the Rat Pack. Guessing those were some lean years for Jerry.

He's done a lot of good with his life. He's another "last man standing."
