Bye Bye Kenny Ball

The famous jazz band leader, Kenny Ball of Kenny Ball & Hus Jazzmen has died at the age of 82.

I always dug his lively arrangements and he was a most enjoyable personality. Take it home Kenny!

Not the most talented player or leader by any means, and he didn't change or move jazz forward in any way. However, and very importantly, he did bring jazz into the homes of millions over a number of decade and was part of a hefty traditional jazz revival in the UK. His guest appearances on TV and radio were numerous and extremely popular, and as has been stated he was an extremely likeable personality - a happy, likeable face of jazz during a period when the genre was going through a phase of being self-important and unlikeable. He will be missed.
