Rick Nelson - Stay Young (1977)

From the Intakes record released on Epic records in 1977. I don't know how Rick could wax songs such as these without expressing any emotion

Sounds good to me. A singer doesn't have to shred his throat and have a stroke while he's singing. It's a gentle song and Rick does a beautiful job on it.

Yes, just because we are so used to hearing Elvis shrieking everything at full volume during his final years doesn't mean that a vocal can't be sincere when it's more subtle and restrained. The issue of course is that singing at such a loud volume can help to cover up a multitude of sins. While Nelson wasn't hitting a creative high in 1977, his voice was in great shape and the Intakes album is an enjoyable listen, even if it was never going to set the world on fire.

Poor Rick. He sure did "Stay Young".
