Beach Boys Surfer Girl

I believe Brian Wilson said he was inspired by Dion & The Belmonts version of "When I Wish Upon A Star" when he wrote and recorded Surfer Girl. There are certainly vocal similarities and that connection is clear between the two. My question is, was Dion & The Belmont's version of "Star" influenced by Elvis' "Soldier Boy"? It lends more to it than it does to the Cliff Edwards Disney original and was recorded (or correct me), within weeks of the release of "Elvis Is Back" in April 1960. There is congruence between the two recordings (with a bit of That's When Your Heartaches Begin" thrown in too) and if that observation is correct, i might go one step further and suggest that Brian Wilson himself was more influenced by Elvis' "Soldier Boy" than he cared to admit when he penned Surfer Girl. For sure Brian (like Dion) would have been familiar with the Elvis Is Back album as he wrote Surfer Girl within about a year of the Elvis albums' release.

Cliff Edwards. When You Wish Upon A Star

Elvis. Soldier Boy

Dion & The Belmonts. When You Wish Upon A Star

The Beach Boys. Surfer Girl

If this has been discussed before i apologise for the re-hash.
