Fat Women Offended Over Restaurant Receipt

Stockton, CA – Three women are understandably angry after discovering the label “fat girls” on their restaurant receipt, which was apparently used by the staff to describe their table.

Christina Duran and two of her girlfriends were shocked when they looked at their Cameo Club Casino restaurant receipt and saw “fat girls” under the name of their server and above the number of guests listed.

In case you’ve never had a waiting job before, servers will sometimes type brief descriptions of their guests into the computer to help identify them to co-workers who run food on busy nights. The downside? Your name (as the server), the guest count, and any note about the table typed into the computer shows up on the check.

“I got the bill, and I was like, why does the receipt say, ‘fat girls?’” Duran said.

Her friends thought she was joking.

“I was laughing at her, and she was like, ‘I’m serious.’ I’m like, ‘No, it does not say fat girls, let me see it,’” said Christina Huerta, who was also at the table along with Isabel Robles.

“[Huerta] was like, ‘You’re lying,’” Duran said. “And I was like, ‘No, I’m serious. Look at it.’ She was like, ‘fat girls?’”

“I was like, ‘Give me that,’ and I’m looking at it. I was like, ‘Oh, heck no,’” Robles said.

They demanded to see a manager, and showed him the check. “He had like a smirk on his face, like if it was funny, but he was trying not to laugh,” Huerta said, describing the manager.

The manager eventually apologized, and offered 25 percent off the bill. When they didn’t work, he upped the ante. “He was like, ‘Well, I can do 50 percent,’ and we were just like, are you serious?” Huerta said.

The three women were in tears over the bill, and insist that it’s no laughing matter. Management issued a later apology, and said that they suspended “Jeff,” the server who admitted to typing “fat girls” on the restaurant receipt. They’re calling it an “isolated incident,” and added that they hope the three women will return so that they can apologize in person.

Serious question: Would the term "obese" be insulting too?

I'd been wondering why my restaurant receipts had things like 'miserable old git' & 'Methusela' on them...........

It is insulting to be treated that way and nobody should be exposed to that. Restaurant is a service business. Anyone acting like that is obviously working in a wrong line of business.

I have always made a point of taking home restaurant receipts and have amassed a collection of over 3900. I am generally referred to as 'Twat'. I kinda like it. :D

I read the topic, and I was like "What? Another PC thread?"

(That really is how many Americans talk. For instance. "He goes 'you wrote that?' And then, I was like: 'I don't believe I wrote that!'"

"He/she goes" means to "speak aloud." "I was like" means to "have a thought, which you may have expressed."

Pack your headphones! Noise-cancelling. )

And yes, they usually number the tables!

My job is installing PC systems in bars and restaurants , this type of reference is normally used to identify a person or group in a pub / bar type of enviroment where the customers do not pay for their drinks at the time of ordering, the descriptions used are usually descriptive of the customer ( a reference to what they are wearing or a general reference of where they are , group in corner etc, etc However the important thing is to be able to set the system up to have the reference only printed or shown internally and not on the final bill of the customer !!! If the system used in the restaurant cannot do this they can get in touch with me and I will give them a quote!!!

Isn't fat an accurate description?...or would they prefer morbidly obese? or more likely super obese as they probably have a BMI over 50!

Seriously, you are what you are, and they are way way way overweight...no words are going to change that

Seriously, it's amazing how many people don't even seem to know what rudeness is anymore.

Rudeness is probably the least serious issue here.

They are fat, and it's accurate, they order more fattening meals, they get fatter. Part of an on-going issue that affects many nations and societies from increased use on health services to poor quality of life and productivity in the workplace as a result of their "health" or lack of.

He probably did them a favour.

Growing up, I used to be call skinny, I frankly didn't care, eat more -- gain weight. Fat? Eat less, lose weight.

It's actually the only relevant issue in this case.

Because you think small, you're local. I think big, I dream in technicolour.

And no, I'm not commending the fact he called them "fat", I don't think anyone should go out of their way to insult anyone. I'm commenting based on the fact that it has already happened, AND that he didn't directly call them that, it was a description not intended for them to see, but due to his negligence got out.

Being fat, getting called fat and then telling everyone you got upset that you got called fat makes no sense, which is what the girls did. One would think that they presume they aren't fat and are hoping we come out and bat for them

What are you trying to say, they are fat, but he shouldn't have called them that?

no, he shouldn't have described them as "fat girls" just because they ARE fat. if it was a group of skinny girls, do you think he would have described them as "skinny girls"? I doubt it!

Yeah. «Weight challenged» would have been much nicer. Or perhaps «persons of superior weight».
