Elvis. I was 11. Will never forget it. John Lennon was the other significant one where the memory is very vivid.

We are obviously of the same generation, Delboy - I have the same memories.

Slightly off-topic, but I also remember the Beatles breaking up when I was 6.

It is certainly President-related. Eisenhower passed away in 1969, but I don't specifically recall watching his funeral. Might be Harry Truman and LBJ passing away relatively close to one another. Truman was in late '72, and LBJ in early '73, I believe. I remember watching those funerals.

When Elvis died, I was 10, and was up north with my parents and my sister, and my grand parents were visiting. I will never forget the coverage it got on TV and especially radio! Living in Montreal, the radio stations played his music non-stop 24 hours a day from tuesday when he died t'ill sunday. Freench and english radio stations couldn't get enough of this story.

It would be Elvis, I was pretty young when he died, but I knew who he was...barely.

Yes
And Lady Diana's death, which I had predicted to a friend, who looked puzzled when it happened.

Raul Seixas in 1989 when I was 4 years old. Very famous in Brazil.

Celebrity worldwide speaking, I remember very well about Freddie Mercury.

Elvis. I was young, but I remember it, perhaps because it had an impact on my parents.

I recall John Lennon's death more clearly.

I was VERY little, but I remember it because of the strange things that started happening around me. I was supposed to be "taking a nap." I was in bed, the curtains drawn.

President John F. Kennedy.

----------

Nobody told me: there was a strange high-pitched keening sound coming from . . . the window area. It got louder. Somehow, I opened it, or it had been opened (more likely, now that I think about it). The sound was a high-pitched wail: all females. All wailing. This was in Levittown, L.I., as I recall (we moved a lot, but yeah).

As this was happening, and before anything came on the TV, unbeknownst to me, my dad had called my mom from "the Cotton Exchange" in NYC, where he was repairing a news ticker. He saw it, and called straight off. What she had done was to throw open the front door and shout it to the women in the neighborhood! Hence the keening wailing.

Moments later, and I'll never forget 'till I die, "Truth Or Consequences" (I remembered "To Tell The Truth," but I did a search, and it was "Truth Or Consequences"! I had on NBC. It went on at 12:30, and a few minutes later, they broke in, because he was shot at 12:30 -- I've wondered about this all my life!) was interrupted on the TV, with the news. The wailing started before it was on TV! My mom had started it with her clarion call to the neighbors. (A LOT of Irish Catholics in Levittown, and similar people, so they went hysterical right away.)

Weird, but true.

It was wall-to-wall after that, but I only remember when a Cardinal or something from Boston was on TV, chanting something in a Mass in Latin. I was this little tot, and I started screaming, and my dad came in. "Turn it off! Turn it off!!!!" It scared the blazes out of me for some reason!

Was that a joke? The woman didn't die until 1995.

It was Benny Hill in 1993. I'm not that old to remember the earlier ones...

The age of the teenager had just dawned.

We didn't have any musical heroes yet, but we needed someone to worship.

My older sister had seen James Dean in East of Eden but I hadn't.

Then he died, & overnight [it seemed] became an international icon for the young.

We took in every film, cut out every article & photo & generally idolised him !

Then we got hit with rock 'n' roll music & Elvis !

But James always had a special place in our memories................
