Here's an email I just received:

Beatles! Backstage! Cavern! Color!
A San Francisco Art Exchange Exclusive!!

We are happy to announce that two brand new editions of photographs are being released of the Beatles backstage at the Cavern Club!!  These very rare COLOR photographs were taken in early 1963, shortly after the Beatles inked their first record deal with EMI.  I’m sure you are all familiar with the Beatles association with the Cavern, as the club has been associated with them since they hit the scene back in 1961.  The Beatles made almost 300 appearances there between 1961 and 1963 and Ringo actually performed in their first ever Beat night in 1960 with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes!

I’m sure you will all notice that these color shots of the band not only feature all four Beatles, but also the three most significant Beatle guitars!  To have an image that includes John’s six-string Rickenbacker that he painted black, Paul’s classic Hofner bass, and George’s Gretsch Country Gentleman is very rare indeed!  One of these shots includes Neil Aspinall (see below) as well, the legendary roadie known as the 5th Beatle, and the director of Apple Records for the last 40 years, which is also quite rare and historically significant!

In all this time, these photographs have NEVER been printed before.  They are among the first color photographs ever taken of the Beatles, and, certainly by any photographer of note, the only ones backstage at the Cavern!  The photographer, Shahrokh Hatami, was sent to Liverpool by Paris Match magazine to cover the Beatlemania phenomenon, and it was backstage at the legendary Cavern Club that he captured these amazing images!

Sharokh Hatami was born in Iran, and began his career writing for a major newspaper in Tehran, switching to photography in 1950.  Life magazine published his coverage of the overthrow of democratically-elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh and the restoration of power of the Shah in 1953.  Through the 1970s Hatami worked as a freelance photographer in Europe and the Middle East.  During that time he befriended Coco Chanel in Paris and many of his shots of celebrities and fashion appeared in Paris Match and similar magazines.  After years on the hip social scene, he returned to his roots and captured the Iranian Revolution in 1978-79 and was present for the return of Ayatollah Khomeinhi.

Attached here are the two Hatami Beatles images that are now available in limited, numbered editions.  We are the only gallery in world representing this photography, and we consider these pieces to be the most significant Beatle photographs we have represented since the Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper photo shoots!  We expect it is highly likely these editions will sell out very fast.  Please contact me ASAP to reserve your print(s)—don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!!
