Platoon TRIPLE DIP

Tue Mar 21, 2006 7:18 pm

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced a new two-disc special edition of Platoon which stars Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger, and Willem Dafoe. The set will carry a new 'high definition' anamorphic widescreen transfer, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include an audio commentary with Oliver Stone, never-before-seen deleted scenes, two new documentaries (including a 20 Years of Platoon Documentary), interviews with Vietnam Vets, and more

This will be the third release of this film on DVD. Will anyone actually "triple dip" to get the new features??

I probably will Tom, seeing as I don't have it on dvd. I can still remember how affected I was when I saw this film in the theaters back in '86. This is the definitive Vietnam war film!

Well, I don't know if I would go quite that far, but it is a great film and you need it on DVD.

I might pick it up at some time if it escapes here.

Tom -
What do you consider the best Vietnam war film? For the record I hated Full Metal Jacket.

Hmmm...I actually enjoyed Full Metal Jacket. I think R. Lee Ermey's portrayal of a DI was amazing.

It was brilliant. He reprises the role in The Frighteners as the guardian of the graveyard, and it's hilarious :)

I don't know that I could pick an absolute favorite. Some of the best, in my humble opinion:

Apocalypse Now
We Were Soldiers
(One of the very best war films ever made)
Full Metal Jacket (Sorry, but I love Kubrick)
The Deer Hunter
The Boys in Company C

There are others, but these comprise my top 5.

Before he played a tough drill seargent in Full Metal Jacket R. Lee Ermey played a similar role in The Boys In Company C.

Tom: With the exception of FMJ I agree with your list. I'm just not fond of Kubrick's style. We Were Soldiers is a helluva war movie!
