Off Topic Trivia Quiz - No.37

Wed Mar 01, 2006 9:47 pm

Well, I'm having a bit of a slow day, so how about another quiz ?

Which UK single mentions in its lyrics the title of the song which replaces it at No.1 ?

Yeah, I know it's too easy, but I'm in a good mood today.

Could it be the Power of Love?

Make things clearer if you quoted both song titles.

I meant the Jennifer Rush song. But I lost the plot and think I'm wrong, so I'll go and stand in the corner

And repeat 1,000 times:

Anyone ready for a clue ?

Right !

The songs in question are not recent.

They fall in the first 1,000 No.1's !

That's narrowed it down a bit for you !

Oh, and both titles are by groups rather than solo artists.

Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:18 pm

What was the question again???

Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:23 pm

Hmmmm...

It was the song "Gummi Bear Boogie" by the Dumpling Diddlers

and the song they referred to was

"Hot Chaka Mama Whoopie Shoop (Part 2)"

what'd I win? :D

It's simple Sam.

There were once two singles which became consecutive UK No.1's.

The title of the 2nd one is mentioned in the lyrics of the 1st one.

What are the two songs ?

Another clue ?

Oh, all right, they're from the 70's and each sung by a different group !

Thu Mar 02, 2006 3:59 pm

Anything to do with MAMMA MIA???

And a group called Queen???

:?

I say it was Mrs Plum with..

Oh wrong game.

I'll take a stab at it and say it was Bohemiam Rhapsody by Queen and
Mamma Mia by abba.

just a guess!!!

You got it !

The lyrics of Bohemian Rhapsody have the words Mamma Mia in them, and by coincidence, that was the title of the Abba single which then knocked them from the No.1 spot in 1975 !

Watch for another Trivia Quiz shortly !

For some reason whenever I hear Bohemiam Rhapsody I think of ABBA.

Thu Mar 02, 2006 7:03 pm

that's the answer??!?!?!?!??!?!

that's no strange weird coincidence.

You want a strange weird chart history coincidence, huh?

Remember that song "Puttin' On The Ritz" by Taco?

Well, back in the day when that song was #1,
I was wearing a tuxedo, listening to the radio, and eating a taco.

Thu Mar 02, 2006 7:32 pm

I'd never eat a taco when wearing a tuxedo!!!

8)

Maybe coz I never wear a tux !!!

Colin,

Could you also have 'What Do You Want' by Adam Faith and 'What Do You Want To Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For' by Emile Ford. They contain the same phrase (what do you want) and it's in their titles

Andrew

Had the two hits been the other way round, yes, that would have been another example !

But they weren't !

Ok - You're the boss!

I'll get my hat and coat ...

It wasn't supposed to be.

Just another Trivia Quiz.

Perhaps you'll like the next one better.

Get on with the next one then Colin

As you know, I had to disallow Andrew's answer.

If the question had been 'Which UK No.1 mentions the title of the No. 1 it replaced' it would have qualified !

Strangely, there is another instance of this happening !

So, for a bonus point:

"Which UK No.1 mentions in its lyrics the title of the No.1 it replaced ?"

Apart, of course, for the one Andrew mentioned !

Although this is not a trick question, it is a bit of a cheat, so it's only being offered as a 'bonus'; not a full-fledged Trivia Quiz with its own number !

What ?

24 hours and no takers ?

Seems you guys don't have a clue !

Or is that what you're waiting for ?

Mon Mar 06, 2006 4:49 pm

Yeah - give us a clue.
