Elvis/Jackson/Beatles Re-issued Singles Comparison

Tue Feb 21, 2006 2:54 pm

I see the Wacko Jacko single re-issues start this week.

In the Woolworth chart, Thriller is No.2, with the box.

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough is No.3.

Thriller won't count in the official chart.

They aren't in chronological order, and these two weren't even No.1's !

And there is another a big difference between these releases and the Elvis ones from last year.

There are copies of these on the shelves !

So that customers can, you know, walk up to the counter and actually buy them !

Unlike the Elvis singles.

I think these are gonna sell shed loads,Colin.

It's a great idea that you get the Video on the flipside of the CD,and I think that alone will shift them.

Who else can see most of these hitting the top spot?

Dan -

I can't stand the guy now, but he did have some cracking singles in his prime.

Hopefully, good ol' Madonnna will keep him from No.1 this first week !

I don't want this series of re-issues to appear to be more successful than the Elvis' ones simply because the product is easier to get hold of !

Same here,Colin.

You just know that these singles are going to be unfairly compared to Elvis's releases last year.

Oh well.....

Well, Brian never did pop up with his mid-week chart !

But in Sunday's official UK singles chart, Wacko's first single in the re-release series [Don't Stop 'Till You Get Enough]
has powered its way up to an impressive 17 !

Yes, the Mighty Jackson fails to even dent the top 10 !

In fact, barely scrapes into the top 20 !

And this is the first single, with all the associated publicity !

This week's single is Rock With You from 1980 [just watch the chart next Sunday].
Update: With this you get the original single version, a remix version & the video.

Dan, you were way off mark suggesting these would be No.1's !

It will be remembered that Elvis, in a similar run of re-released singles
last year made the top 5 with them all, and some went to No.1 !

And that was without the 'DVD extras' that the Jackson ones have.

Back in the 80's, The Beatles' single re-issues were a flop on a scale even greater than Jacko !

Can anyone match the chart achievements of our boy ?

Colin,

I get it,I was wrong !!!

You didn't need to tell me twice !!!

Dan -

It's naughty of me, I know, but I just love seeing Jacko & Sony get egg on their faces like this !

So who else will dare to try the 're-issued singles' format ?

Sir Precipice Dick ?

Sir Elton John ?

Madge ?

The Rolling Stones ?

Who else would risk falling flat on their faces ?

Who else would dare to go up against The King ?

[That's enough questions - The Management]

Alright,Colin,I predict then, that "Thriller" will get to number one.(Because of the Video.)

Do you agree?

Well, seeing as it was out last week, but disqualified for the chart because of the accompanying box, no I don't !

Mon Feb 27, 2006 4:52 pm

Whoops !!!

See,that shows how interested I really am in Jackson, and his singles !!!

Thanks for that,Colin.

I can't see any of the others doing it then.

Well, maybe "Smooth Criminal" or has that one gone too?

I think I better shut up now.

Dan.

I made no comment !

Please feel free !

Why ?

I mean, did you expect it higher, or lower ?

Tue Mar 07, 2006 8:20 pm

Well,as I said before,I thought these would sell shed loads, and make a lot of Number Ones's for the man.

I'm shocked that they don't seem to be the "Hits" I thought they would be.

Have you any sales figures,Colin?

No.

Brian Quinn is your man, but he's been unusually quiet on this.

Mon Mar 13, 2006 2:00 am

Well, another week, another failure to make the top 10 !

Billy Jean is the most successful yet, making it to No.11 today !

Mon Mar 13, 2006 4:19 am

Wow he is picking up ground.

A little.

But this week Beat It only makes it to No.15 !

Elvis rules !

Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:05 pm

No.16 this week with Bad !

Too Bad !

I'm compiling a little list so that the re-issued singles of Elvis, Jacko & The Beatles can be compared [don't know of any other acts to have their singles re-issued, do you ?].

I'll post it when Jacko's run is complete.
