Famous Elvis Presley Fans U2 Triumph!

Thu Feb 09, 2006 11:14 am

Last night at the the Grammy Awards U2 of Ireland Picked up FIVE! Paul McCartney sitting close to them got none.

The news is being repeated every 15 minutes on the BBC TV Breakfast news show. The Irish news media will be all over the story today :)

Bono is now one of the most famous Elvis fans in The World and we should be informing everyone of that important fact. Especially some Rock mag editors!!! Dear Nial Stokes of Hotpress magazine................. It'll go today.

U2 Have been around since 1976! The greatest Rock band in the World?

Delboy, I don't know enough about them  Although I have read one book about the band.

Bono can stroll down a main street here in Dublin without being bothered by anyone.

He hardly makes a TV appearance without mentioning Elvis.

U2 Stadium Concerts sell out in 15 minute here!

EDIT Missed Off Topic  But it's about Elvis and the impact famous Elvis fans can have, and how we can exploit the news.

famous

Ger, I don't listen to much of it

I see my friend here moved me again

Bono's Studied scruffiness he learnt from Geldof who learnt it from the Rolling Stones...I think?

Bono Owns a posh Hotel in the Centre of Dublin with scores of Bathrooms

American tourist driving around in circles on our roads in the West where the signs are in the Irish language only.

Yank, "Sir can you tell me if this road goes to Galway city".
Irish guy, with clay pipe in his mouth. "Sorry I dont know".

Yank, "are we headed south on this road?"

Irish peasant, "I don't know".

Yank, "Well where can we buy a map of the area?"

Irish guy, "I don't know".

Yank, "You are not very bright sir, are you?".

Irish guy, " Maybe not. But I'm not lost".

Irishman to Yank in New York City-"Where's the pub?"

Irishman to Yank in pub-"Where's the nearest House Of Ill Repute?"

Actually, in the UK, those 'sheep' jokes normally refer to the Welsh, for some reason.

Scatter, Don't you mean a Polak went into a New York pub? :)

With our craving for lamb chops the sheep are safe here in Ireland...well most of them

DAMN RIGHT!!

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, as Judge Judy might remark.

But the truth is Macca is way past his sell by date. I always preferred John anyway :)

U2 Are now the greatest Rock band in the world..................I'm told.

Maurice, I don't think Bono is the biggest Elvis fan in his own band, let alone the world. That distinction goes to the drummer, Larry Mullen, Jr.
:D

Thu Feb 09, 2006 7:51 pm

Khoots, I didn't he was the biggest Elvis fan. He is just the most famous at the moment.

The guy turns up with the Pope, Tony Blair, in The White House, at The UN...and with our other Saint, Bob Geldof

And it was Bono's Poem about Elvis got into the RollingStone mag!

i don't care about U2, i don't particular like their music. and i definitely don't think they're the greatest band in the world
i like Macca, and always have, and it annoys me he didn't win anything
the only thing that saved the grammys from being a complete disaster was his performance which was fabulous

Elvisgirl, your loyalty is admirable.

But the fact remains U2's triumph is at top of all the entertainment news at the moment.

Did they ever get a replacement lead singer ?

Fri Feb 10, 2006 5:46 pm

no...

Fri Feb 10, 2006 7:25 pm

While the great Freddie Mercury is irreplaceable, Paul Rodgers has been touring with Brian May and Roger Taylor under the Queen name. I believe bassist John Deacon is not a part of it.

Fri Feb 10, 2006 7:32 pm

no John is not a part of it, he retired. anyway the question was if they ever got a replacement lead singer, they didn't. Paul Rodgers is not a replacement

Fri Feb 10, 2006 7:46 pm

I understand that, EG. Just wanted to mention Paul Rodgers' involvement. :D
