I mentioned this one on the "price gouging" by RCA /FTD thread today.
I still can't figure out how I got a Paypal account though, because I clicked on the credit card side.
I ordered but Sue's comment had me wondering for a minute. I was able to
my Visa albeit through
PAYPAL. I was able to do a similar thing through
Jordan site one time. I doesn't
mean you have to have a paypal account
and by telephone, the store has confirmed this for me.
credit card charge will refer to soemthing like "Paypalmemoriesof.."but
don't be alarmed.
(I did once have a Paypal account but they are controversial for acting
like a bank but not fully being ruled by the government rules on banks
due to a loophole.)
Alas, I ordered a bunch of FTD's I didn't have but the Memphis '74 one?
"This is my quest.."
And from another "fast" site:
MEMORIES OF ELVIS TO CLOSE
The last independent Elvis Trader at Graceland forced to
close after 27 years of business
Anyone who has ever been to Graceland would have visited Carol and her team
at the Memories of Elvis store at Graceland Crossing!
This Elvis store is the last one around Graceland that is not owned and run by the
EPE money machine. The store is memorable for the vast amount of Elvis
merchandise that is different to the EPE stockpile of products available around the
site and the friendly staff that work there.
And of course the hundreds of wonderful and many exclusive photographs of Elvis
that you can buy there. But all that is going to chance as EPE have refused to
renew the lease.
Below is a letter from Carol explaining the situation. Please contact EPE and Jack
Soden and support this wonderful shop that has given me and tens of thousands
of other fans from around the world so much pleasure.
To our dear friends and loyal customers:
There is no easy way to be the bearer of bad news. So I will just go ahead and
share with you. Following nearly three decades in business, Elvis Presley
Enterprise has informed us that they no longer wish to lease to us.
They have stated that the last day of our lease will be on November 30, 2005. It
came as a total shock to me, in that I had inquired only recently as to the future of
our store. I received the notice in the form of a short note, hand delivered to the
store on Tuesday, May 31.
I was also surprised that no personal contact was made.
Among many emotions that we are experiencing are those of deep sadness,
disappointment, sense of loss, and even denial. It does not seem real to me. It’s
hard to understand how Memories of Elvis could no longer exist after 27 years of
dreams, dedication, loyalty of employees, and being here for Elvis fans world-
We were here in the days shortly after the death of Elvis when the house was still
a residence and the public could only visit the gravesite.
I wish I could somehow reverse this action taken by EPE. I have spoken with Jack
Soden at length and assured him that I would be willing to negotiate a new lease,
making the most attractive offer that I can comprise.
I can assure you that I will not let a day pass without continuing my endeavor to
save our store.
This is not just about me and my family. It’s about a dream that I had many years
ago, when I was my only employee. This store has been my child, of sorts, with
many struggles, yet many victories.
Not only that, this issue is also about each one of you, my loyal friends and
customers. You are the best group of people in the world, and I thank you for
visiting us repeatedly; many of you remembering our beginning in the small shop
directly across from the gates. Those were wonderful times and we have
continued those friendships until the present.
And, now, for the good news. It will be “business as usual” here at Memories of
Elvis. We have wonderful new merchandise waiting for your visit this summer. We
are very excited about the new designs, most of which are exclusive to our store.
We will soon have them posted on our website at www.[deleted in advance ].com
but are looking forward to seeing you here in the shop within the next few months.
Our entire staff will still be here for you. So please make plans to come to
Memphis in the near future. Elvis Tribute Week will be filled with excitement here
at Graceland Crossing.
We are trying our best to work something out with regard to our situation. We
definitely want to stay here as long as possible. Please come this summer to show
your support; and please call Graceland on our behalf. Let them know how much
it means to the Elvis World to keep a connection to the past and to enjoy the
specialty merchandise only offered by an independent firm such as ours.
You are part of our family and we want to be here for you. Remember, we are
depending on your response to let Elvis Presley Enterprise know how you feel
about this decision.
