Well Luuk, I don't reckon the black natives in South Africa sent a letter to Holland stating: "Dear White Europeans From Holland. Please colonize our land, as we think the idea of having our women raped, out men killed, our lands taken, and being excluded from government representation until the late 20th century is a more-than-fair trade for the opportunity to have some of those wooden shoes you folks are famous for."

And, lest we forget the omnipresent myopia of Spanish Eyes..........

Wasn't it the Spanish who sent out explorers worldwide, claiming this land and that land for Spainl (including America, with its noble indians BTW)??

Weren't they the ones raping, pillaging, enslaving, and infecting the native populi to the point of extermination in some cases???

And talk about the plundering of native resources to fuel a superpower!!!!! Well, Spain was the progenitor........the prototype.

Now THAT my friend , is how colonization is done!!!!!

Hypocrites..........

Question...just how was America born anyway?

Well, we admit that America is a mistake.

America............keeping the world safe for the bitchy everywhere for over 225 years.

Just so some of our friends might understand why we in America feel as we do about your incessant and hypocritical bitching, here is an exept from the speech Col. Jessup (Jack Nicholson) gave in the courtroom in "A Few Good Men".

I believe it summarizes it quite nicely.........

Jessep(Nicholson): You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You???? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives......
You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it!

I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post.

hey jerksnot

I'm one quarter Cherokee

why don't you shut up and quit hero-worshipping that Dutch criminal who illegally snuck into America, became a dogcatcher, a snakeoil salesman and screwed the Presley family out of millions.

16 consecutive nights of rioting, and 2000 arrests.

Animals.

Despite being one quarter Cherokee you do not sound too bright. Telling someone to shut up is more something brainless people do.
Are you brainless?

Africa was colonised by order of the church. Christian church.
The churchleaders wanted to bring God to the people there. The ones that refused to become a Christian were transported to the USA and sold as slaves.
I had nothing to do with that. I am against religion, any religion.

I don't feel guilty at all for what some people from my country did 500 years ago. BTW, if you go to South America, you'll see plenty of native people there. If you go to the US, where can you find Native Americans? Living in reserves almost like animals. Not mentioning the thousands who were slaughtered by settlers and the American Army afterwards, and stealing their lands.

Where can you find Native Americans? Plenty of places, including a reservation not 45 miles from where I'm reading your ignorance.

"Living like animals?" Hardly. A little more research next time, SE, and that doesn't include the movies.

Yeah, so how is it that just 0.8% of the US population is Native American? Why is it such a low number?

Right

Of course, I don't feel that American is a mistake. It is in fact the best nation to live in(IMHO), and I love it and is the binding of the world economy. Bar NONE.

Not saying that there aren't other great places, but without America I can't imagine what cultures would be like.

I love our movies, our fast foods, our big store chains..etc. Efficiency at its finest.

You've almost convinced me.

Let's say, America wasn't our biggest mistake.

Hey man, I didn't mean for you to take it in the wrong way. I am sorry next time I will have to shoot my words more correctly.

Damn your anal.

Sun Nov 13, 2005 11:00 pm

LOL. I would say that America has much better things than chain stores or fast food (which for me is one of the worse)

Sun Nov 13, 2005 11:20 pm

He does know how to make a friend that's for sure.

Yea, the best thing about America is fast food and chain stores.

What about the Dutch East India Company Luuk? They were responsible for a lot of colonization - including here in America. New York was originally New Amsterdam. I'm sure some native Americans were killed during the course of that colonization.

The truth of the matter is that virtually ALL of our countries have shameful periods. So what are we to do? Perhaps we should all return to the land of our ancestors? That presents a conundrum for me. I'm part Scot, part French (by way of Canada), and part native-American (again by way of Canada). Where do I go? Do I go to Canada? If so, do I go to the French district? Or maybe I should just go all the way to France? (Considering the state their in right now I'll pass.) Or go to Scotland and join up with the Macdonald clan.

Yes the U.S. isn't perfect, and has made mistakes. Lots of 'em. And yes I'll concede the war in Iraq was a mistake. But at least we were willing to step up to the plate and take a swing. But here's something to bear in mind Luuk in Holland, and Francois in France, and Wolfgang in Germany, and Mario in Italy, and Knute in Denmark, and Jose in Spain, and yes even Clive in Britain: If it wasn't for the U.S. you all would be referring to each other as comrade. If you think you could have kept the Soviets at bay without U.S. military power/presence you're living in la la land. Or the Netherlands.

Brazil is the best place to live! Despite the violence and corruption we have a big territory, lots of beautiful beaches, bunch of girls, tropical weather, it is hot almost all the year, people here are very solidary, great food, no concern about water in the near future, soccer (next year again we will have the world cup), no war, religious riots is very very rare.
Only the music could get better :D

I just love here.....

And the slaughter your country perpetrated dwarfs anything you can point at here. 500 years of it.

And your abject ignorance of Native Americans is matched only by........your abject ignorance about most other things you scratch out

Mon Nov 14, 2005 10:09 am

well, let's see...

quaker danish/possibly belgian that moved to england for a hundred years or so, then to sandwich, massachusetts in 1624 because of religious persecution
scotish/german ellis island immigrants--my mom is 5th generation, became kansas/missouri farmers

and for the record, my family was in the american revolution, fought on the UNION side in the civil war, and my great uncle died in the battle of the bulge in wwII...to top it off my dad flew cargo in vietnam.

yep, i'm an american mutt.

as far as spanish eyes is buggering on about...would you like to explain the spanish inquisition to me? you know the one where the catholics hated the protestants...also where was hernan cortez from again? who funded columbus? what about the muslim moors that got chased out?

oh, and for the poor little indians (doing quite well with casinos actually)...they aren't NATIVES!!! they are ASIAN from over the bering strait land bridge. they are just as native here as i am. pfft.

for the record, spain and holland were quite active on the conquering nation imperialism, if you don't know. spain was a rival to england when it came to the new world.

the little cited caribbean slave trade (WAY bigger than the american one that so many foreigners like to bitch at us about)...

and for the record--this was spain and portugal heading most of this. only 4.5% of the slave trade was in the u.s. also, for the record, i think the caribbean slaves had about a 5 year life span or less...i forget. all i know is the u.s. south had quite a higher lifespan expectancy than in the caribbean.

From then until the abolition of the slave trade in 1870, at least 10 million Africans were forcibly brought to the Americas:
about 47 percent of them to the Caribbean islands and the Guiana’s;
38 percent to Brazil;
and 6 percent to mainland Spanish America.
About 4.5 percent went to North America, roughly the same proportion that went to Europe.

Mon Nov 14, 2005 4:08 pm

For the ones whining: If the US treated so well the native americans, how is it possible that just 0,8% of the population has that origin? As well, if teh Spanish conquest weas so awful, how can you explain that about 70% of people in South America are full or half-blooded native?

Regarding the Inquisition. Yet it did exist, it was very exaggerated. The most radical and violent were the Swiss and German ones, which threw thousands of peoples into the flames.

When was the last act the Inquisition did? 250 years ago? When did Wounded Knee occur? By the way, I dislike and criticise what Spaniards did during the last past centuries, but I see a lack of criticism from you against american atrocities. Shall we remember that black people were hung from trees 40 years ago and the local authorities from those towns didn't move a finger to avoid it?
