Joe Ranft has died

Thu Aug 18, 2005 4:57 pm

Joe Ranft, one of the top dogs at Pixar Animation Studios', died Tuesday when his car plunged into the ocean after running off a road in California. He was 45. Joe was co-writer on Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King. He also worked on Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and voiced Heimlich in A Bug's Life, Jacques in Finding Nemo and Wheezy the Penguin in Toy Story 2.

Joe was a great guy and a friend. My heartfelt prayers and condolences go out to his family.

Tom

Sad news. Such a talented individual dying in such a tragedy. Life is too short for many of us. R.I.P.

It's sad to know that a cornerstone of such a fine company has left us.
I just read that another person was in the car with him and died just as tragically.
May they rest in peace. A prayer goes to the families.

Melanie,
It's true. Joe wasn't driving at the time. A third passenger miraculously survived with only moderate injuries. So tragic.
