AFI Salute to George Lucas

Tue Jun 21, 2005 4:58 am

USA Network Monday night 2 hrs

American Film Institute Life Achievement Award to GL

A big black tie & tux ceremony at Kodak Theater in L.A.
to honor Lucas with hundreds of stars in attendance
a big screen showed highlights of all his films.

Lucas sat at a banquet table with Spielberg to his right, and Harrison Ford to his left. Composer John Williams was at the table.

Bill Shatner opened the show - he thought it was a Star Trek convention! He then did a karoake recitation of "My Way"
bit off more than you could chew...bacca
Shatner had a chorus line of stormtroopers behind him, carried him offstage

There was a tribute to THX-1138 and to American Graffitti

Robert Duvall stood up and made a toast to George

Ron Howard made a screen cameo to discuss AG

Tom Hanks went to the mic and talked about how Cleveland didn't have Star Wars until mid-June '77, weeks late after release

Carrie Fisher went to the mic and was hilarious and very abrasive, practically roasted GL.

Ford, Hamill, Fisher and the droids and Chewbacca went on stage for a cast reunion.

Peter Jackson had a screen cameo - he's lost alot of weight :) almost unrecognizable.

there were funny clips from SNL and Simpsons and Spaceballs

In the Raiders segment, Ford returned to the mic and said:
"I love Indiana Jones. If you and Steven can think up more ways to torture me, I'm there for Indy Four. But hurry up! If you wait too long, Sean will be too old to play my father!"

everyone laughed. :D
