I been thinking , or trying to think of the moment I first watched him play... I do easily recall the 5 setter vs Pete Sampras 2001 at Wimbledon, ending Pete's four consecutive Wimbledon's, and thinking "Wow, this kid can play", and he had that beautiful single handed backhand that reminded me a little of Stefan Edberg (a big former fave, who would later coach him for a while) and not only that - he could really fire that backhand - either across the court or down the line... supplemented by the fact he had the balls to see out a long five set, four hour win against Pete (the then defending champion and 7 times winner) on Centre Court.

Seemed very obvious back then he was destined to become the next world number one, a prolific winner on all court surfaces, and very soon at that , but i never thought he would become the greatest of all time!

Sad? He did not die. He has just retired and time moves on, so tennis. Other legends like Nadal and Djokovic will quit and life will go on.

"Ain't it funny how time slips away...."

It is Sad, because we will probably never see another player like Roger FEDERER again.
An end of era.

Another way to look at it, we are living in that of the 5 billion years of our planet's history.
How fortunate enough to exist at the same time with him. To me he played tennis better than any other player ever did. With class, style, respect for the game. But time does not stop for anyone.

I hope he will enjoy the next chapter of his life.

Roger's Final Farewell was in a doubles game alongside Nadal representing Europe, just a few hours ago.

AWWW, my friends. All good things must come to an end is one consolation, but DOES NOT make it any easier to take.
